LONDON (uhcougars.com) – Houston’s Cameron Burrell and Kahmari Montgomery each ran the anchor legs for Team USA in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter races, respectively, at the Athletics World Cup in London to help the United States’ men’s team sweep the relays on the way to taking home the overall title.
The Athletics World Cup features eight of the world’s top track & field nations in London, including the USA, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Poland, China, Germany, France, Jamaica and South Africa.
On Saturday, three-time NCAA Champion Burrell opened his post-collegiate career running the final leg of a team consisting of Jeff Demps, Kendall Williams and Obi Igbokwe that combined to pass the baton one lap around the track in 38.42. Team USA crossed the line just one-tenth of a second ahead of Jamaica (38.52), who edged out South Africa (38.53) for silver.
With the victory in the 4x100-meter relay, Burrell and Team USA picked up eight points towards the overall team standing.
United States Champion Montgomery added an international gold medal to his repertoire after anchoring the 4x400-meter relay for his home country in the final event of the Athletics World Cup, on Sunday.
Montgomery ran the final leg of a team that consisted of Nathan Strother, Igbokwe and Paul Dedewo, crossing the line in 2:59.78 to take the gold. Montgomery split 45.30 on the final lap, helping the squad finish three seconds in front of second-place Poland, who edged Germany for the silver.

The Houston duo helped Team USA score 16 points on the weekend. USA won the overall competition with 219 points.
