PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference announced the winners of the league's weekly women's soccer honors with Memphis, ECU and Cincinnati all garnering top individual accolades. The Tigers accounted for two top player awards while five different schools were represented after the first three days of 2018 play.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Clarissa Larisey - So. - Memphis
Larisey led all American scorers with three goals last week. She scored twice in a 4-0 win over Central Arkansas and scored in the Tigers' home-opening victory against Omaha. Larisey ripped eight shots in 145 minutes of action and put six on goal.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayda Hylton-Pelaia - Jr. - ECU
The Pirates are one of three undefeated American teams thanks to a sterling defensive effort from Hylton-Pelaia. She played all 110 minutes in a draw at Old Dominion as ECU held the Monarchs scoreless over the final 95 minutes despite being a player down, in addition to a goal-saving block in double OT. The defender also added an assist in a win against Radford.
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Elizabeth Moberg - So. - Memphis
The Tigers' second-year keeper opened the year with back-to-back shutout wins as she played all 180 minutes in front of the net. She tallied six saves over two games including five stops in a victory against Central Arkansas. The clean sheets were her fifth and sixth of her career.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brandi Thomsen - Fr. - Cincinnati
The Bearcats' midfielder made an immediate impact as she scored the game-winning goal in a come-from-behind win against Eastern Kentucky. She also started and played 67 minutes on the road as Cincinnati went up against No. 8 Virginia.
Honor Roll
Kelli Burney - USF
The Bulls center back came up with a big block late in a win over Towson and added a goal at Auburn on Sunday.
Courtney Cash - Sr. - ECU
Played all 110 minutes in a draw against Old Dominion and added three points with a goal and an assist in a win over Radford.
Andrea Hauksdottir - Jr. - USF
The midfielder assisted on all three goals scored by the Bulls in a 1-1 week.
Kimberley Smit - Fr. - Memphis
Smith posted an impressive collegiate debut with a goal and assist in a season-opening win over Omaha, 4-0.
Allie Thornton - Jr. - SMU
Thornton scored both goals for the Mustangs in a 2-1 win over DePaul.
