USF Headlines Week Two Women’s Soccer Awards



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's second weekly women's soccer honors for the 2018 season, for the week ending Sunday, Aug. 26.

Offensive Player of the Week
Evelyne Viens * Jr. * F * USF

Viens had a foot in all three of USF's goals as the Bulls upset No. 17-ranked Baylor last Friday night. USF scored three goals in the span of 12 minutes thanks to the inspired play of its striker. Viens had an assist on the first two goals, and finished the match with a score of her own. Viens hit six of USF's 16 shots during the match.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kim Sanford * So. * D * ECU

Sanford makes it two-straight Defensive POTW awards to start the year for undefeated ECU. She played all 110 minutes in a 1-1 tie at No. 16 NC State and blocked four shots against the Wolf Pack. Sanford went on to score the equalizer and then added an assist on the game-winner in a come from behind 2-1 win over Davidson.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Sydney Martinez * Fr. * USF

Martinez did not have the look of a freshman on Friday night against the No. 17 Baylor Bears as she faced 15 shots and made six saves to help USF knock off the Bears. Martinez improves 2-1 on the year with a 1.29 goals against average and 10 stops.

Rookie of the Week
Courtney Sebazco * Fr. * MF * SMU

Sebazco was an offensive force the Mustangs as she opened the scoring in both of SMU's games over the weekend. She netted her first of the week with a tenth-minute goal in the win over Rice and then a fourth-minute goal on the road in 2-2 double-overtime draw at TCU.

Kelli Burney * Jr. * D * USF
Burney was a crucial part in USF's win over No. 17 Baylor on Friday night as he helped lead the Bulls defense block six shots from Baylor; held the Bears to just one goal

Courtney Cash * Sr. * F * ECU
Played 104 minutes against No. 16 NC State, scoring ECU's goal in a 1-1 tie; took four shots and played 86 minutes in a 2-1 win over Davidson

Olivia Lee * So. * MF * Houston
Lee posted a pair of game-winning goals this past weekend as she scored the opening goal in a 5-0 win over PVAMU; notched the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Incarnate Word

Melanie Stiles * R-So. * GK * ECU
Stiles played all 200 minutes in goal with a with a 1-0-1 record; made a career-high eight saves to help ECU tie No. 16 NC State 1-1 and earned the win against Davidson

Jill Vetere * Sr. * F * Cincinnati
Scored the overtime gamewinner in a 1-0 defeat of Northern Kentucky; assisted on a goal in Friday's 2-0 win over Wright State
