American Looks to Build on an 11-5-3 Week Two Record

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was a spirited week of play for The American Athletic Conference as the women's soccer teams posted an impressive 11-5-3 record over 19 total games. The league will look to keep it going in week three with 16 more matches on the schedule.

Last week, USF earned the league's first win over a nationally-ranked opponent as the Bulls took it to then-No. 17/20 Baylor, 3-1. Junior Evelyne Viens was in on every goal that USF scored and was recognized as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

The Bulls are now in both national polls as they check in at No. 24 on both rankings lists.
ECU also earned a point in a road matchup against then-No. 16/16 NC State as they drew, 1-1, in a battle of North Carolina schools.

Defensive Player of the Week and ECU sophomore defender Kim Sanford played every minute against State and then scored a goal of her own and even assisted on a gamewinner in a come-from-behind victory against Davidson for ECU.

The Pirates were one of seven American schools to post undefeated records last week as well as one six schools to earn more than three points.

Cincinnati, Houston and Temple all went 2-0 last week and did so impressive fashion as the trio posted six shutouts with a 15-0 scoring advantage.

SMU also enjoyed a strong week as the Mustangs won at Rice and drew on the road against TCU. With the unblemished slate, SMU is once again receiving votes in the top-25 rankings.

UCF played one of the most challenging schedules in the country to open the season as they began against No. 21 Texas and No. 4 North Carolina. The Knights scored against the Longhorns and allowed just one goal at the Tar Heels. UCF is also still receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches national poll.
