PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference women's soccer week six schedule saw the start of league play begin and with it, two teams in Memphis and SMU started with two wins to place atop the standings. Memphis took three of the four individual accolades.
Offensive Player of the Week
Samantha Murphy * So. * F * Memphis
Murphy netted three goals in the first week of conference play including both game-winners as the Tigers downed Cincinnati and ECU. She scored twice in a 5-0 defeat of the Bearcats and then came through with the golden goal in an overtime victory against the Pirates, 2-1. Murphy is the third Tiger to earn offensive accolades and the fourth scoring award for Memphis this season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Stasia Mallin * Jr. * D * Memphis
Mallin earns her second-straight defensive honor as she led the Tigers to two wins with a shutout. She led a defense that allowed only one goal while also adding two assists, including the setup on an overtime gamewinner against ECU.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Elizabeth Moberg * So. * Memphis
Moberg is the top goalkeeper for the second time this season after she garnered the first award of the season. She went 2-0 last week and to improve 10-1 on the year. She made six saves in two wins and picked up her nation-leading ninth shutout of the season in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati.
Rookie of the Week
Gabriela Johnson * Fr. * F * Temple
Johnson scored twice in an overtime victory at Houston. She netted the first goal of the game for the Owls and then came up huge in extra time as she put home the golden goal for a brace and the win for Temple. She put all four of her shots on goal.
