PROVIDENCE, R.I. – At the start of week three in The American women’s soccer season, three teams are still at least receiving votes in the national top-25 polls with USF moving up to the 20/19 spot.
USF went over on Detroit Mercy in impressive fashion to keep the momentum rolling for the Bulls.
After opening its season against then No. 20 Texas and No. 4 North Carolina, UCF got its first win of the with a superb defensive effort in a 2-0 victory over Miami (Fla.).
SMU makes it two-straight weeks receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 poll. The Mustangs now stand at 3-1-1 on the year.
Despite national attention, it is Memphis on top of the standings as the only team with four wins thanks to a golden goal by The American’s Offensive Player of the Week, Jessica Lisi.
ECU rounds out the top four teams in the standings as the Pirates went 1-1 last week and became the final team in the standings to not suffer a loss.
The top four programs account for a 13-4-3 overall record through the first three-plus weeks.
There are 20 games on the week three slate and the Tigers got things started off with a win as they blanked Samford yesterday, 3-0.
The spotlight will also continue to be on Cincinnati as the Bearcats play their third and fourth games against top-25 foes.
Cincinnati hosts No. 16/25 Kansas on Thursday before playing at No. 10/17 Auburn on Sunday.
UConn and UCF will also have contests against teams in the national conversation with RV/- Ole Miss and RV/- Florida on tap for Friday and Sunday, respectively for each club.
