UCF's Wright, Tulsa's Lewis Collect Women's Basketball Weekly Accolades

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 13.
 
Player of the Week
Kay Kay Wright * Jr. * G * UCF

Wright averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week for UCF that included a pair of key conference wins. The Knights earned the program’s second-ever victory at USF on Tuesday, with Wright recording 20 points, five rebounds and three steals. On Sunday, the junior netted the game-winning shot with five seconds left and sealed the game with a steal, giving UCF a 56-55 victory over Cincinnati. Wright finished the game with 25 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists. On the season, she has reached double-digit scoring in all 16 games so far.
 
Freshman of the Week
Desiree Lewis * Fr. * F * Tulsa
Lewis repeated as the Freshman of the Week after averaging a 13-point, 12.5-rebound double-double in Tulsa’s 2-0 week. In 37 minutes against Memphis on Wednesday, she scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in her team’s 46-39 comeback win. On Saturday, Lewis totaled 16 points and 13 rebounds, with nine boards on the offensive end. The forward has posted double-doubles in the last three games.

Averaged 21 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of UConn wins, including a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double against Cincinnati; became just the fourth American Athletic Conference player to hit 2,000 career points in Sunday’s win over USF
 
Dorian Branch * Jr. * F * Houston
Matched her career-high with 20 points against SMU and added 11 against Temple in Houston’s 2-0 week; averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, an assist and a block per game
 
Alana Davis * So. * F * Memphis
Scored a career-high 26 points at Wichita State on Saturday, going 10-for-11 from the foul line and 8-of-16 from the field with five rebounds and a block
 
Kaila Anderson * So. * G * Tulane
Tied her career-high with nine assists against Temple on Tuesday and dished out another eight against SMU, adding 10 points against the Owls; the Green Wave have now won a conference-best six-straight
 
Crystal Polk * Sr. * F * Tulsa
Averaged a 16.5-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Golden Hurricane, dropping 22 points with 14 rebounds at ECU on Saturday; shot 50 percent (13-of-26) from the field on the week in 29 minutes per game
