PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors for the week ending January 13.
MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Obi Igbokwe * Sr. * Houston * Houston, Texas
Senior transfer Igbokwe made his Houston debut in the 200-meter dash, running the third-fastest time in the nation and the world this season in 20.84 seconds (20.91 after elevation change) to place first at the Texas Tech Corky Classic on Saturday. His time ranks first in The American this season. The senior was an All-America sprinter at Arkansas in each of the past three years.
FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jaidyn McCallon * Fr. * Tulsa * Frisco, Texas
McCallon moved to the top of The American’s performance list after running the 400-meter in 56.11 seconds to lead The American this season. The freshman placed third among a packed field at the Arkansas Invitational, as her time is good for a personal record and ranks No. 34 in the NCAA this season.
MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Lagarious McQuirter * R-Fr. * Houston * Dayton, Texas
Competing for the first time as a collegiate athlete, McQuirter jumped for the 12th-best distance in the NCAA this season after winning the long jump at Houston’s Leonard Hilton Invitational with a mark of 7.59 meters (24-110). His distance also leads The American this season.
FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Loretta Blaut * Sr. * Cincinnati * Cincinnati, Ohio
Blaut continues to shine for the Bearcats, as the senior high jumper cleared 1.81 meters (5’ 11.25”) for the fourth-best jump in the nation last week at the Jim Green Track & Field Invitational in Lexington, Ky. A four-time American champion and two-time national runner-up, Blaut holds the top two jumps in the conference this season (1.82m and 1.81m) in her first two meets. She was the top collegiate finisher in her event on Friday, placing second behind a professional competing unattached.
