PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly men’s and women’s tennis honors for the week-ending Jan. 29.

Moore led Tulane to a pair of wins against nationally ranked teams, leading the Green Wave to the team title at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Tallahassee, Florida. Moore won a third-set tiebreaker against the nation’s No. 45-ranked player in a 4-2 win against No. 18 Tennessee and was a three-set winner at the top position in a 4-2 victory against No. 19 Florida State. The two wins gave the Green Wave a spot in the upcoming ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in program history. Moore has gone 3-0 in dual matches and is 8-4 overall in the 2018-19 season.

Tulane’s men’s team defeated a pair of top-25 opponents at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Tallahassee, Florida, to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the first time in program history. The Green Wave scored 4-2 wins against No. 18 Tennessee and No. 19 Florida State to become one of 15 teams to qualify for the National Team Indoor Championships over the weekend. The championship will be held Feb. 15-18 in Chicago.
Tulsa’s men’s team is ranked No. 25 in the Oracle/ITA rankings of Jan. 23. Updated rankings will be released Wednesday, Jan. 30.
Three American Athletic Conference men’s teams are unbeaten through the early portion of the 2019 dual match schedule. Tulane and ECU both stand at 4-0, while UConn, which won three fall matches, takes a 3-0 mark into this week’s spring opener.

MEN’S TENNIS UPDATE
UCF (0-3) came up short in a pair of matches at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Palo Alto, California, last weekend. The Knights fell 4-1 to No. 10 Stanford in their opening match and were edged 4-3 by Minnesota in the consolation. Mikhail Sokolovskiy has been solid at the bottom of the singles ladder with a 3-0 dual match mark at No. 5 and No. 6. The Knights will host No. 4 Florida Thursday in their only match of the week.
UConn (3-0) begins its 2019 spring season Tuesday against Boston College. The Huskies scored three dual match wins in the fall with victories against Merrimack (6-1), Holy Cross (4-0) and Franklin Pierce (7-0).
ECU (4-0) has four wins in as many matches after the Pirates scored victories against Navy (5-2) and Mount St. Mary’s (7-0) in Annapolis, Maryland, last Saturday. Wisse Jonker has mirrored the Pirates’ 4-0 start with four wins at No. 3 singles. ECU has a pair of home matches this week - a Friday contest against George Mason and a Sunday date against UNC Asheville.
Memphis (5-1) had reeled off five straight wins to start the spring season before the Tigers’ streak was snapped by No. 1 Wake Forest in the championship match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Tigers had defeated Old Dominion 4-1 in the opening round before falling by the same score to the 2018 NCAA Champion Demon Deacons. Chris Patzanovsky has stepped in to the No. 1 position on the singles ladder and has gone 4-1 through five matches. The Tigers will be back in action Friday with a doubleheader against Arkansas Pine Bluff.
USF (2-2) went 1-2 at the Jerry Simmons Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as the Bulls followed a 4-0 win against Nicholls with losses to Penn State (4-2) and Georgia State (4-3). Junior Alberto Barroso-Campos is off to a 4-0 start in singles play, including three straight-set victories. The Bulls visit No. 11 Baylor Friday and will be at No. 3 Mississippi State Sunday.
SMU (3-2) split a pair of Saturday matches as the Mustangs were edged 4-3 by Northern Colorado before taking a 5-2 victory against Nebraska. The Mustangs have another doubleheader set for this week as SMU hosts UT Permian Basin and Midwestern State Sunday.
Temple (1-2) fell 4-3 to Cleveland State in its only dual match from last week. The Owls’ tandem of Alberto Caceres Casas/Mark Wallner is The American’s highest-ranked doubles pair (No. 23). The duo is off to a 3-0 start at No. 1 doubles in the spring. Temple heads to Buffalo Saturday before visiting Binghamton Sunday.

The Golden Hurricane took both ends of a doubleheader against Arkansas Pine Bluff with 7-0 victories, scored a 7-0 win against Omaha and closed the week with a 6-1 decision against Abilene Christian. Majed Kilani has gone 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 4-1 in dual matches, while Jarod Hing and Boriss Kamdem are both 6-0 in the spring season. Tulsa hosts Oral Roberts Friday and is at Arkansas Sunday.
Wichita State (2-2) split a pair of matches at ITA Kickoff Weekend in Starkville, Mississippi, last weekend. The Shockers fell 4-0 to No. 3 Mississippi State in their opening match and bounced back with a 4-0 victory against UNC Wilmington in the consolation match. Wichita State plays its next three matches in the state of Tennessee beginning with a Sunday matchup against No. 18 Tennessee in Knoxville.
