Houston's Heebner Named to USA Softball POY Watch List

Houston senior pitcher and NFCA All-American Savannah Heebner was named to the Top 50 Watch List for the 2019 USA Softball Player of the Year award, as announced by USA Softball.

The award enters its 18th season and recognizes outstanding achievement by Division I female collegiate softball players across the country. Heebner was the only player from the American Athletic Conference named to the list.

In 2018, Heebner led the conference in wins (26), opponent batting average (.204) and a minuscule ERA of 1.15. The Sedalia, Colo., native also recorded 13 shutouts last season, which tied for third in the nation and ranks second all-time in program history for a single season.

At the conclusion of her junior campaign, Heebner earned Second Team NFCA All-America honors to go along with her NFCA All-Region First Team accolade. She became Houston's sixth All-American in program history and first since 2014.

For her efforts, Heebner also received top recognition in The American, garnering Co-Pitcher of the Year honors and helped lead the Cougars to a berth in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
