Highlights
SMU’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs opened the 2019 season for American Athletic Conference teams, as the Mustangs swept Loyola New Orleans on Friday, Jan. 4 in Dallas. The women’s team also battled No. 8 Texas A&M in dual meet action on Saturday, Jan. 5, while additionally competing in the Georgia Diving Invitational over the weekend.

SMU’s women’s team won all 14 events in the swimming-only competition against Loyola New Orleans to clinch a 178-66 dual meet win. The men’s team also swept the Wolf Pack, securing a 150-76 victory.

For the women, Felicity Passon, Gabi Grobler and Andrea Podmanikova each won two events to lead Mustang individuals. Passon was victorious in both backstroke distances, Grobler in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke and Podmanikova in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

On the men’s side, Garrett Carson, Jesse Washington and Connor Dalbo each won a pair of individual events. Carson won the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Washington paced the field in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, while Dalbo won both breaststroke events.

Erin Trahan led the Mustangs with three runner-up finishes against Texas A&M, but the SMU women fell 161-90 to the Aggies in College Station, Texas. Trahan was second in both the 50-yard (23.73) and 100-yard (51.90) freestyle, as well as the 100-yard butterfly (55.21).

Freshman Johanna Holloway led a trio of SMU divers in a three-day competition in Athens, Ga. She competed in all three events, earning her highest finish of 14th on 1 meter with a season-best 250.80. She placed 18th on 3 meter and was the only Mustang to compete on platform, finishing 23rd.
