Memphis running back Kenneth Gainwell and Temple center Matt Hennessy were chosen as second team selections to the Associated Press midseason All-America team released Tuesday.
Gainwell, a redshirt freshman, leads The American in rushing at 121.0 yards per game. He has rushed for 726 yards and seven touchdowns on 95 carries, ranking fifth nationally in rushing, first among freshmen. He has helped Memphis to a 5-1 start to the 2019 season.
Hennessy has established himself as one of the nation's top centers for the 5-1 Owls. Hennessy anchors an offensive line that has allowed only 1.17 sacks per game, good for 15th among FBS programs. He is a two-time All-ECAC selection and has been named to the Rimington Award watch list three times in his career.
