DALLAS (SMU) - After a record-breaking five-goal performance versus Cincinnati on Saturday night,
Garrett McLaughlin was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor comes on the heels of being named the AAC offensive player of the week on Monday, in addition to College Soccer News' national player of the week and a first-team selection to Top Drawer Soccer's team of the week.
McLaughlin becomes the second Mustang to take home the United Soccer Coaches' award this season, joining goalkeeper
Shane Lanson who earned the honor in September after earning a clean sheet versus then-No. 2 Duke. It's the first time since 2010 that two different Mustangs have earned the weekly honor in the same season - joining Juan Castillo and Arthur Ivo who both claimed the award that season.
McLaughlin's Saturday night performance in Cincinnati is one of the best in SMU history. The senior tallied an SMU-record five goals and added an assist in a 7-1 drubbing of the Bearcats. The Senior CLASS Award candidate now has a team-high 14 goals and 33 points in 2019, both marks are the most of any Mustang since 2002.
The 2019 accolades are beginning to stack up for the Oklahoma City native as he's now taken home two AAC offensive player of the week honors, one national player of the week, and a host of other weekly accolades throughout the season. McLaughlin is also one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, given annually to the nation's top senior that excels on and off the field.
Fan voting is open and you can vote multiple times a day.
The only other D1 school in men's soccer to take home multiple national player of the week honors is Seattle.
