The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the fifth sixth week of the 2019 college football season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
James Proche • SMU • Sr. • WR • Dallas, Texas
Proche, who was also chosen as the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, had 11 receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning TD in the third overtime period, in SMU’s 43-37 win against Tulsa. Proche’s two touchdowns helped SMU rally from a 30-9 fourth-quarter deficit and kept the Mustangs unbeaten at 6-0 entering an open week.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jarell White • Cincinnati • Jr. • LB • Cincinnati, Ohio
White had seven tackles with a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a key fourth-quarter interception to help Cincinnati to a 27-24 win against No. 18/19 UCF and end the Knights’ 19-game winning streak against American Athletic Conference opponents. White’s interception came at the Bearcat 6-yard line and with Cincinnati holding a 27-16 lead. He led a defense that held the Knights to one touchdown in six red-zone chances.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Smith • Cincinnati • Jr. • P • Wangaratta, Australia
Smith, a 2018 Ray Guy Award finalist, averaged a modest 40.0 yards on eight punts in Cincinnati’s 27-24 win against No. 18/19 UCF, but put five of his eight kicks inside the 20-yard line and three inside the 10 to help the Bearcats win the field position battle. Only two of Smith’s eight punts were returned, for a total of six yards.

Rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, averaging 14.9 yards per attempt, in a 52-33 win at Louisiana-Monroe.
Malcolm Perry • Navy • Sr. • QB
Rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and completed 5-of-7 passes for 144 yards in a 34-25 win against Air Force. Scored the go-ahead touchdown with 23 seconds left in regulation.
Dwayne Boyles • USF • So. • LB
Tied for the team lead with eight tackles, including a sack and 3.0 tackles for loss, in a 48-22 win at UConn. Led a defense that held UConn to 293 yards and 2-of-13 on third down conversions.
Isaiah Wright • Temple • Sr. • WR
Had 173 all-purpose yards, including 104 yards on nine receptions with a touchdown in a 27-17 win at ECU. Added a 55-yard kickoff return and a 14-yard punt return.
Amare Jones • Tulane • So. • WR
Had six receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 65 yards and a TD on nine carries in a 42-33 win at Army, ending the Black Knights’ 15-game home winning streak.
