UCF Earns Share of Men's Soccer Regular Season Title, Will Host Semifinals and Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With Friday evening’s 1-0 victory over Memphis, UCF has secured the top seed for the 2019 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship and will host the semifinal and championship matches.
 
The No. 6-ranked Knights earned at least a share of the regular season title for the second straight year. Redshirt freshman Gianluca Arcangeli created space for himself in the box in the 85th minute, placing a shot to the near side to lift UCF to victory. The Knights are unbeaten in league play and in their last 13 outings, dating back to Aug. 30.
 
The semifinal and championship matches are slated for Wednesday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 16 and will be played at the UCF Soccer & Track Complex. The top two seeds receive byes to the semifinals, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will host first round contests on campus sites on Saturday, Nov. 9. The winner of the Championship tournament will earn The American’s automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Championship.
 
On Tuesday, the remainder of the tournament seeds will be determined with the outcomes of the final regular season matches. SMU, Memphis, Temple and USF have already secured spots in the championship field, with Cincinnati and UConn vying for the final berth. Tulsa has been mathematically eliminated following Friday’s 0-0 draw with Temple.
 
Following Friday’s results, No. 12 SMU currently sits second in the standings with 13 points, Memphis third with 12 points, Temple fourth with 11 points and USF fifth with nine points.
 
Tuesday’s final regular season matchups will feature Tulsa at UConn, UCF at Cincinnati, SMU at Temple and USF at Memphis. The full bracket will be announced following the completion of all games.
