Stacy Martin Named Senior Associate Commissioner/Chief Financial Officer of The American

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  Commissioner Mike Aresco announced today the hiring of Stacy Martin as Senior Associate Commissioner and Chief Financial Officer of the American Athletic Conference. She will work remotely from Dallas, Texas before the office relocation to Dallas in spring of 2020 and she will assist with the Conference’s scheduled relocation.
 
Martin, currently the deputy athletic director and chief financial officer at the University of North Texas, previously served as CFO of The American from May 2015 through September 2016.
 
“I am pleased to welcome back Stacy as a member of our senior staff at The American,” said Aresco. “She is one of the most respected professionals in college athletics with a proven track record as a strong financial administrator. Stacy will assist our chief operating officer Donna DeMarco and me in our office relocation to Dallas, and she will again serve our membership extremely well in her position as CFO.  
 
At UNT, Martin has been a member of the school’s executive team and has been the school’s senior woman administrator. She has been responsible for the strategic planning for all financial and business operations within the department and has had direct oversight over a number of areas, including human resources, information technology, travel, accounting, legal services and contracts. Martin also has served as the liaison to the University President for finance and administration and the General Counsel and Controllers’ offices. A member of the Conference USA’s budget and audit committee, she assisted with the partnership with CUSA to host the league’s basketball tournament at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Martin also is a founding board member for Women in Sports and Events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (WISE DFW).
 
As CFO at The American, Martin managed the Conference’s annual operating budget, reserve accounts and business affairs. She was the liaison to the Board of Directors Audit Committee and Athletic Directors Finance Committee. She also played a key role in establishing the league’s inaugural Football Championship Game in 2015.
 
A four-time letterwinner and captain as a member of the San Jose State University gymnastics team, Martin began her athletics administration career at her alma mater where she worked from 2002-10, rising to senior associate athletic director and chief financial officer before leaving to become the assistant athletic director for business at Kansas State University (2010-12). Martin also served as executive senior associate athletic director for finance and administration and SWA at the University of Memphis from 2012-15.
 
Martin received a bachelor’s of science degree cum laude from SJSU in business administration in 2002 and a master’s degree in business administration and finance in 2005, also from SJSU. A member of the Collegiate Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) since 2003, she served as the organization’s president in 2011-12 and was named the organization’s Business Manager of the Year in 2012-13.
