MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Second-seeded USF advanced to the final of the American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship with a 2-1 win over No. 3 seed UCF Friday (Nov. 8) in Memphis, Tenn.
Senior Evelyne Viens, the conference’s all-time leading goal scorer, scored a brace for the Bulls (13-4-0), to pull her career marks to 66 goals and 155 points. She scored in the 35th minute off an assist from Sydny Nasello to give USF a 1-0 lead.
After halftime, the Bulls piled on the pressure and secured a two-goal lead when Nasello fed Viens in the 58th minute.
The Knights (11-4-4) pulled one back when Elise Legrout converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute.
USF’s Sydney Martinez made the final of her three saves in the later stages to secure the win for the Bulls.
Caroline DeLisle saved five shots for UCF.
USF outshot UCF, 22-6, and had seven shots on target to the Knights’ four.
The Bulls will take on the winner of No. 1 Memphis and No. 5 SMU in the tournament final on Sunday, Nov. 10. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. Eastern and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
