PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 8.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Terence Ware * Sr. * Houston
Ware claimed the 60-meter dash title at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational, crossing the finish line in 6.80. Ware’s winning time ranked 13th in the country after the opening week of the season.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Wesner * Grad Student * Memphis
Wesner excelled in the high jump for Memphis at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham, Alabama, taking the event win by clearing 2.16 meters (7-1). Wesner’s effort was tied for the top mark nationally in the season’s first week of competition.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Naomi Taylor * Jr. * Houston
Taylor fashioned a fantastic performance in the 60-meter hurdles for Houston at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational, taking the title in 8.31. Taylor finished the first weekend of the season as the national leader in the event.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
DeeNia McMiller * Sr. * Memphis
McMiller won the weight throw at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham, Alabama, with a dominant effort of 22.20 meters (72-10), adding a shot put top throw of 14.58m (47-10). McMiller leads the nation in the weight throw after the first week of the season, adding the fourth-best shot put in The American.
