East Carolina 71, UMES 57 - Box Score

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Sophomore Jayden Gardner finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and East Carolina rolled to a 71-57 victory over UMES on Tuesday night.

Freshman Brandon Suggs added the first double-double of his career for the Pirates (4-7), totaling 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

AJ Cheeseman came off the bench to hit 5 of 7 shots from the floor and all five of his free throws, scoring 15 for the Hawks (1-11). UMES starters combined to score 19 points on 9-of-31 shooting.

East Carolina rolled to a 35-16 halftime lead before UMES scored 41 second-half points, a season high.

Miami (Fla.) 78, Temple 77 - Box Score

NEW YORK (AP) -- Chris Lykes made two free throws in the final four to lead Miami to a 78-77 win over Temple on Tuesday night in the third game of the inaugural Air Force Reserve Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational.

Lykes led Miami (7-3) with 17 points. Keith Stone scored 13 points, Kameron McGusty added 12 and 10 rebounds, and Dejan Vasiljevic and Rodney Miller Jr. each had 11 points.

Vasiljevic entered the game needing four points to break the 1,000-point barrier at Miami.

Quinton Rose led the Owls (7-3) with 14 points. Alani Moore II contributed 12, and Monty Scott had 10.

The game was tight from the opening tip, as neither squad was able to create any separation. Miami's biggest lead was nine, while Temple largest advantage was six.

Trailing 71-66, Temple cut the deficit to two on a Moore 3-pointer. On the ensuing possession, a McGusty layup allowed Miami to extend the lead to four. Only to have Temple rip the advantage away due to two made free throws by Rose, and 3-pointer by J.P. Moorman II. Miami regained the lead following back-to-back Miller layups, but a De'Vondre Perry 3 gave Temple 77-76 lead to set the stage for Lykes.

Following Lykes' two made free throws, Temple had one last chance but Rose missed a desperation 3.
