Highlights

Wichita State 100, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 50
Jack Frost couldn't slow down the Wichita State offense on this day, as several Shockers set career marks in a 100-50 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday afternoon in Charles Koch Arena.

Wichita State (6-4) hit the century mark for the first time since Nov. 21, 1999 and is just the sixth time in school history a Shocker team has put 100 points on the scoreboard.

Ashley Reid had a career day, setting personal bests in points (17), assists (7) and rebounds (4), while making eight of her nine free throws. Mariah McCully notched her fourth straight game in double figures with 17 points and pulling down a career-best six rebounds. McCully was perfect from the charity stripe, going 8-for-8. Maya Brewer also set a new career high with 16 points.

Shyia Smith and Vendela Danielsson both chipped in 10 points. Asia Henderson just missed her first career double-double with eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds, and also swatting a career-high five shots.

The Shockers shot 50 percent from the field, and just missed breaking the school record at the free throw line. WSU knocked down 36-of-45 attempts at the line. The 36 makes tied the American Athletic Conference single-game record.

The lead swelled to 30 within the first three minutes to start the second quarter behind seven points from Bastin, four from McCully and a Diamond Forrest layup. WSU's largest lead of the half was 37 before going into the break with a 57-23 lead.

Wichita State's 57 first half points were a season high behind 55 percent shooting and cashing in 20-of-25 free throw attempts. UAPB shot just 25 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 18 times leading to 22 WSU points.

McCully and Reid led the scoring attack with 11 points apiece.

Keitha Adams was able to go deep into her bench in the second half. Danielsson registered her first career points on a corner trey with less than a minute to go in the third quarter.

After three quarters Wichita State held a 78-36 lead despite shooting less than 40 percent from the field in the third.

Danielsson's third triple put the Shockers up 95-45 and just 3:35 left in the game, and it would be her free throw under a minute left that would put the Shockers at 100.

Howard 67, ECU 51
In its final home game of 2019, the ECU women's basketball team fell to Howard 67-51 on Monday night inside Minges Coliseum.

ECU drops to 3-7 on the season and has lost three straight. Howard wins its third straight game and is now 7-4 this year.

The Pirates were led in scoring by Necole Hope, who finished with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting while also grabbing five rebounds. Dominique Claytor finished with a team-high seven rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Lashonda Monk and Katerina Tsineke each had nine points for the Pirates with Monk adding four steals.

Howard tied the game just 27 seconds into the third quarter on a three-pointer. After the two teams traded the lead back and forth, a Tsineke layup with 3:44 remaining in the third tied the game up at 37-37. That was when Howard threw the knockout blow. The Bison scored 11 of the game's next 12 points, six of which came from Thorpe to take a 49-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.

ECU briefly had a lifeline in the fourth as Hope went on a 4-0 run of her own, cutting the deficit to seven. But that was as close as the Pirates got, as back-to-back three-pointers by the Bison moved the lead to double-digits once again.

UConn 84, DePaul 74
Megan Walker had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Crystal Dangerfield also scored 22 and No. 2 UConn held off No. 16 DePaul 84-74 on Monday night.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 19 points for the Huskies (9-0), who dominated in the first half and won their 17th straight over the Blue Demons (10-2), whose seven-game winning streak ended. Connecticut led 55-29 at the half before DePaul began a furious comeback.

Chante Stonewall led DePaul with 21 points. Sonya Morris had 20 points, Dee Bekelja has 12 and Lexi Held added 11 for the Blue Demons, whose other loss was to No. 4 Oregon State on Nov. 14.

Held's 3-pointer with 7:17 left trimmed UConn's lead to 70-66, but the Huskies regrouped from there.

DePaul started the third quarter with an 8-0 spurt and narrowed UConn's lead to 69-56 as the period ended on Held's 3-pointer from the left side. The Blue Demons started the fourth with a 10-1 run.

UConn was in charge throughout the first half.

DePaul hit only one of its first nine shots, and that was all bigger, quicker UConn needed to get on an early roll.

Through the first 20 minutes, Connecticut outshot DePaul 61.1% to 34.3% and outrebounded the Blue Demons 29-9.

UCF 80, Quinnipiac 58
Four Knights reached double figures and the UCF women's basketball posted a season-high in an 80-58 win over Quinnipiac on Tuesday evening in Addition Financial Arena.

Diamond Battles opened the night with a tough take to the basket, and UCF led by as many as four in the first quarter before taking a 16-14 edge into the second frame. The Knights pushed out to a 12-point advantage, 35-23, on a three-pointer from Georgia Gayle in the second quarter and took a 40-29 lead into the locker rooms.

UCF started the third quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 48-29 advantage on a fastbreak layup from Courtajia Sanders. Brittney Smith put the lead at 20 points on a free throw late in the frame and UCF led 60-43 heading into the fourth quarter.

Quinnipiac put a scoring run together to pull within 15 points in the early part of the final 10 minutes, but Smith, Battles and Gayle scored the next nine points to put the game out of reach.

The Knights hit a season-best 29 shots and made a season-high 20 free throws. The Black and Gold held the rebounding edge, 43-29, and scored 22 second chance points off 20 offensive rebounds. UCF also took care of the ball, with a season-low 11 turnovers.

Brittney Smith had a career game, tallying 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from both the floor and the free throw line. The sophomore tallied her second career double-double – and her second of the season – with 10 rebounds, including eight offensive boards.

Cincinnati 62, Alabama A&M 47
University of Cincinnati women's basketball won its fourth-consecutive game Tuesday night with a 62-47 victory over the visiting Alabama A&M Bulldogs at Fifth Third Arena.

The Bearcats (7-4) started slow, trailing by as many as nine points midway through the first quarter. UC then settled in, ending the opening period with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 14 heading into the second. Scoring the first five points of the second quarter set the tone for a dominant period in which the Red & Black outpaced the Bulldogs 26-7 to lead 40-21 at the halftime break. The home team kept the pressure on in the second half, not letting the opposition get closer than 15 points as it cruised to victory.

Senior guard Florence Sifa led all scorers with a career-high 18 points, as well as three assists and three steals. Senior guard Sam Rodgers scored a season-high 16 points, while junior forward IImar'I Thomas' matched Rodgers with 16 points and added eight rebounds.

UC knocked down four 3-pointers – all by Rodgers – and buried 14-of-18 free throws. The Red & Black also scored 32 points in the paint and got out on the fast break for 15 points. In addition, the Bearcats dished out 16 assists on 22 made field goals.

Memphis 68, Little Rock 50
Winning at Little Rock for the first time since 2011, the Memphis women's basketball team coasted to a third-straight 15-plus point win Tuesday night. The 68-50 final lifted the Tigers to 7-4 on the season.

Both sides of the floor were clicking all night for Memphis, holding the Trojans to single-digit scoring in two separate quarters. On the offensive side, Gazmyne Herndon led the way with 15 points, scoring in double-figures alongside Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu's 13-point, 12-rebound double-double and Jamirah Shutes' 12 points.

Memphis used a 9-0 run through the end of the first quarter into the second to create a 24-10 lead with 8:19 left in the second. The Tiger defense would put up a similar defensively dominant quarter, holding the Trojans to just nine second quarter points. Offensively, the Tigers had one of their best quarters of the season to date, shooting 10-of-14 and hitting a pair of three-pointers. During the quarter, Fankam Mendjiadeu and Shutes would eclipse double-digit scoring, propelling the lead to 40-19 at the midway break.

Coming out of halftime, the defenses took over early in the quarter. At the media timeout, Little Rock was shooting 1-of-8 midway through the set. The Trojans would finish the third quarter with nine points, matching the total from the second quarter. Though Memphis only scored 10, the quarter was highlighted by a nine-rebound quarter for Fankam Mendjiadeu.

The Tigers kept the game on ice in the fourth, scoring 18 points to keep the Trojans from making a comeback. The win marked the first win against Little Rock since 2011.
