UCF's Wright, UConn's Nelson-Ododa Tabbed Players of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s first weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 22.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Kay Kay Wright * Sr. * G * UCF
Wright carried UCF to a 3-0 week, averaging 23.3 points and 3.7 assists while shooting 51 percent (25-of-49) from the field and a perfect 14-of-14 from the foul line. The Knights defeated Quinnipiac, Saint Mary’s and Wright State, with Wright hitting double-figures in all three outings. Against Saint Mary’s, she scored 30 points with a career-high 12 field goals, dishing out seven assists with four steals. Wright followed the next day with 24 points, two assists and three steals against Wright State, giving her 54 points on 51.4 percent from the field on UCF’s Holiday Tournament. 

Olivia Nelson-Ododa * So. * F * UConn
Nelson-Ododa patrolled the paint in UConn’s 2-0 week that featured an 84-74 win at No. 16 DePaul and a 97-53 rout of Oklahoma. She averaged 23 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 blocks and four assists per game, shooting 81.5 percent (22-of-27) from the field. Nelson-Ododa hit career-high totals with 27 points and 15 boards against Oklahoma on Sunday, swatting seven blocks for a season-high in the conference this season. Against DePaul on Monday, she converted on all nine field goal attempts for 19 points, adding four rebounds, five assists and four blocks.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Reagan Bradley * Fr. * G * SMU
Bradley averaged 14 points, 6.5 assists, six rebounds and shot 45.8 (11-of-24) from the field for SMU in a 1-1 week. In the Mustangs’ 60-56 win over UTEP on Thursday, she scored a career-high 16 points while dishing out a career-high nine assists, grabbing six rebounds and shooting 6-of-10  from the field. She followed with 12 points, four assists and six rebounds in SMU’s setback to UT Arlington on Sunday. For the week, Bradley went a perfect five-for-five from the free throw line.

Averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and three assists per game as Cincinnati defeated Alabama A&M and Pittsburgh; scored a season-high 16 points with four 3-pointers against Alabama A&M and 15 points with four rebounds against Pitt

Tatyana Hill * So. * F * Houston
Poured in a career-high 24 points on 7-of-11 from the field and 10-of-14 from the foul line in Houston’s win over Southern Miss; added eight rebounds in the 75-60 victory

Madison Griggs * Fr. * G * Memphis
Tied her own conference and school freshman record with eight 3-pointers in Memphis’ 91-54 win over Mississippi Valley State; finished with 26 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals

Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu * Jr. * F * Memphis
Posted back-to-back double-doubles in the Tigers’ wins over Little Rock and Mississippi Valley State; scored 13 points with 12 boards at Little Rock and followed with 14 points and 12 boards against MVSU

Kendrian Elliott * Sr. * F * Tulsa
Scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting in Tulsa’s 61-55 win over Colorado State; pulled down six rebounds with four assists, two blocks and a steal as the Golden Hurricane snapped a six-game skid
