Temple's Mackins, Memphis' Griggs Tabbed Women's Basketball Weekly Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s first weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Monday, Dec. 30.
 
Players of the Week
Marissa Mackins * So. * G * Temple

Mackins dropped a career-high 28 points to lead all scorers in Temple’s 72-69 Big 5 win over La Salle on Monday. The sophomore connected on a career-high seven 3-pointers as part of a 10-of-22 performance from the field. Mackins added five rebounds, three assists and a steal as the Owls rose to 7-6 on the season.
 
Freshman of the Week
Madison Griggs * Fr. * G * Memphis
Griggs paced Memphis with 21 points, including five 3-pointers in the Tigers’ 79-71 win over Alabama A&M on Monday. The freshman went 7-of-13 from the field, grabbing two rebounds and with a pair of steals. Monday marked Griggs’ sixth game this season with at least four buckets from beyond the arc, as Memphis is off to its best start since 2012-13.

Scored a team-high 20 points with six rebounds, five assists and two steals as UCF notched a 64-58 win over Central Michigan on Monday; the Knights have won four-straight and snapped CMU’s seven-game win streak

Became the 27th member of Cincinnati’s 1,000-point club in Monday’s win over Coppin State; finished with 21 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal while shooting 10-of-15 from the field
 
Bethy Mununga * Jr. * F * USF
Led USF with a career-high 16 points and 14 rebounds in her first game since Dec. 6; dished out two assists with a steal, converting all six tries from the foul line in a 70-60 win over Brown
 
Krystal Freeman * Jr. * F * Tulane
Put together an all-around performance of 12 points (6-of-10 from the field), 11 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals as Tulane defeated Georgia Southern 56-40 on Monday
 
Kendrian Elliott * Sr. * F * Tulsa
Repeated as a honor roll nod with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks, shooting 50 percent from the field in Tulsa’s 58-51 win at UTEP; marked the Golden Hurricane’s first win over UTEP since 2004
