American Teams Go 4-0 Wednesday

The American Athletic Conference went 4-for-4 in men's basketball action Wednesday night (Dec. 4). 

UConn 80, Iona 62 - Box Score

STORRS, Conn (AP) -- Josh Carlton scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, both season highs, to lead UConn over Iona 80-62 on Wednesday night.

Christian Vital had 16 points and Tyler Polley added 14 for the Huskies (6-2), who have won three straight and five of their last six.

Alterique Gilbert scored 12 points and had 10 of UConn's 18 assists. That trio of guards combined to hit eight of their 15 attempts from 3-point range.

E.J. Crawford scored 17 points and Tajuan Agee had 14 for Iona (2-3).

UConn led by just one point at halftime, but scored the first 11 points of the second half. Tyler Polley's 3-pointer from the left wing put the Huskies up 47-35 and forced acting Iona coach Tra Arnold to call a timeout.

Akok Akok's put-back capped the UConn run at 22-4. That gave the Huskies a 58-39 lead and control of the game.

Iona went on a 13-1 run of its own and cut what had been a 22-point deficit to 10 before UConn stretched it back out.

The Huskies opened strong. Vital scored on UConn's first possession and had seven points as the Huskies jumped out to an 11-2 lead.

Connecticut used an unusual 5-point play to go up 20-11. Gilbert drew a foul while sinking a long 3-pointer from the right wing. He missed the free throw, but Isaiah Whaley was there to tip it into the basket.

The Huskies led 22-11, before Agee led the Gaels on an 12-0 run to take their first lead on a three-point play by Crawford.

UConn led 36-35 at the break.

Tulsa 72, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 39 - Box Score

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Jeriah Horne had 22 points as Tulsa rolled past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 72-39 on Wednesday night.

Horne hit 8 of 10 shots including 4 of 5 from distance. Brandon Rachal had 10 points and six rebounds for Tulsa (7-1), which earned its sixth consecutive win.

Zavian Jackson had 16 points for the Golden Lions (1-6) who have yet to win this season against a Division I opponent.

Tulane 61, Southern Miss 56 - Box Score

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Christion Thompson scored 15 points as Tulane held off Southern Miss 61-56 on Wednesday night.

Trailing by 12 points with 2:37 left, the Golden Eagles closed to 57-54 on Tyler Stevenson's dunk with 16 seconds to go, but Teshaun Hightower and Thompson combined for four free throws for the win.

Hightower had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double for Tulane (7-1), which won its fourth consecutive game. K.J. Lawson added 11 points.

Stevenson had 10 points for the Golden Eagles (2-7), who have now lost four games in a row.

Houston 68, Texas State 60 - Box Score

HOUSTON (AP) -- Quentin Grimes had 21 points as Houston topped Texas State 68-60 on Wednesday night.

Fabian White Jr. had 15 points for Houston (4-2). Nate Hinton added 14 points and DeJon Jarreau had 12.

Nijal Pearson had 17 points for the Bobcats (6-3), whose four-game winning streak came to end. Mason Harrell added 11 points. Alonzo Sule had 10 points.
