Tulsa Defeats UC Davis In NIVC Round 1

LONG BEACH, Calif.
– In the opening match of the 2019 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), Tulsa emerged with a four-set win over UC Davis on Wednesday night on the campus of Long Beach State. The Golden Hurricane advanced to the second round of the tournament by way of a 20-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-20 decision.
 
The Golden Hurricane (16-15) bounced back from a first set setback to hold UC Davis (17-13) to a -0.054 hitting percentage in set two, squaring the contest at one frame apiece. Tulsa remained in control from there, securing the first NIVC win in program history.
 
American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Dilara Gedikoglu led the way for Tulsa with 10 kills and 17 digs, while American Libero of the Year Taylor Horsfall chipped in 17 digs, four service aces and two assists. Callie Cook enjoyed a huge match at the net for the Golden Hurricane, turning in a team-high nine blocks while hitting .368 with nine kills.
 
Tulsa moves on to the next round of the NIVC, where it will face Santa Clara (21-11) on Thursday at 10 p.m. (ET) in Long Beach. Santa Clara downed host Long Beach State in five sets on Wednesday night to set up its matchup with the Golden Hurricane.
