Borzillo, Kavanagh, White and Rzempoluch Earn First Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s first weekly women’s lacrosse honors, for the week ending Monday, Feb. 11
 
Attacker of the Week
Monica Borzillo * Jr. * Cincinnati

Borzillo sparked Cincinnati to a 1-1 week, totaling 14 points on nine goals and five assists. In the Bearcats’ 19-8 win over Kent State on Saturday, she fell one score shy of her own single-game program record with seven goals, pairing with four assists for a program-record 11 points. Borzillo stuffed her stat line against the Golden Flashes with six ground balls and five caused turnovers. In Friday’s season-opener against Ohio State, the junior found the back of the net twice and added an assist for a team-best three points. For the week, Borzillo averaged 4.5 goals on 6.0 shots per game.
 
Midfielder of the Week
Shannon Kavanagh * So. * Florida
Kavanagh’s impact was felt all around the field for the No. 6 Gators at No. 17 Colorado on Friday, with Florida cruising to a 16-9 win. She finished with a career-high five goals, including a perfect 4-for-4 on free positions, and two assists to tie her career mark with seven points. Kavanagh was additionally strong on the draw with six draw controls and caused two turnovers on the defensive end.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Christina White * GK * So. * ECU

White backstopped ECU to a 2-0 start in the program’s second season, totaling 26 saves in all 120 minutes. She made 10 stops in the Pirates’ 13-12 win over Winthrop, including two in the final five minutes to keep ECU in front. White then followed two days later with 16 saves to set a program record, helping the Pirates to an 18-11 victory over Gardner-Webb. Her 16-save total was the fourth-highest nationally in the season’s opening weekend.
 
Freshman of the Week
Hannah Rzempoluch * A * Fr. * ECU

Rzempoluch made an immediate impact in her career debut, scoring a goal and registering three assists for four points in the Pirates’ 13-12 win over Winthrop. She also collected a team-high six draw controls. Against Gardner-Webb, Rzempoluch found the back of the net twice and added an assist for three points while tallying another three draw controls. For the week, she finished with seven points and nine draw controls.

Totaled eight points, including seven goals and an assist, in Cincinnati’s 1-1 week; added nine ground balls, 17 draw controls and four caused turnovers on the week, accounting for all 11 of the Bearcats’ draws against Ohio State

Registered four goals and seven assists for 11 points in ECU’s 2-0 start, including a pair of goals and three assists against Winthrop and two goals and four assists against Gardner-Webb; scored ECU’s final two goals against Winthrop to secure the 13-12 victory
 
Sophie Furlong * A * So. * Vanderbilt
Scored a career-high five goals in her first career start, sparking Vanderbilt to a 16-7 win over Wagner; added a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Commodores
