American Softball Release: Week 3

AMERICAN SOFTBALL RELEASE - FEB. 19

WE’RE STREAKING
A trio of American teams – Tulsa, Wichita State and ECU – kept their winning streaks intact over the weekend. After losing its first three games of 2019, Tulsa has rolled off seven straight victories, while Wichita State has tallied six consecutive wins and ECU currently sits with five wins in a row. Three additional teams – Houston, UCF and USF – all closed the weekends with Sunday victories as well.

HOSTING DUTIES
Four American teams are putting out the welcome mat for opposing teams, as ECU, Houston, UCF and USF will host a combined 42 of the group’s next 43 total games. UCF (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) and USF (Tucson, Ariz.) are returning from their lone trips outside of the state of Florida during non-conference play, while Houston will make a quick trip to McNeese State in midweek action for its only game away from home in its first 21 contests. After opening 2019 on the road, ECU is in the midst of hosting three consecutive tournaments of its own.

TRIPLE TROUBLE
Tulsa’s Julia Hollingsworth hit two triples against South Alabama to set the program’s career record. She has 13 three-baggers in her career, surpassing Caitlin Everett (2010-13) for the top spot on the school’s all-time charts. Her seven triples as a junior in 2018 were a Tulsa single-season record. Hollingsworth is now three triples away from second on The American’s all-time list, and 10 away from the conference record.

POWER SURGE
Through two weeks of play, The American has six players with double-digit RBI totals, including three players from ECU and a pair from Memphis. Neleigh Herring of Wichita State leads the pack with 14 RBI to date, followed by Memphis’ Baylee Smith and ECU’s Tate McClellan with 12 each. Regan Hadley of Memphis and ECU’s duo of Logan Wood and Rachel McCollum, all have driven in 11 runs.
