MEN’S TENNIS UPDATE
UCF (1-5) was idle last week. The Knights have added a Sunday trip to Birmingham, Alabama, to their spring schedule as UCF faces Samford and UAB.

UConn (7-5) took two of its three dual matches last week as the Huskies dropped a 4-0 decision to ECU, but answered with 4-2 victories against Fairfield and Bucknell ni East Hartford, Connecticut. UConn’s top doubles tandem of Hank Hill/Yili Zheng has gone 7-4 in dual matches this season, while Justin Warren leads the squad in singles play with a 7-4 mark in dual competition. The Huskies continue their homestand Saturday against Villanova.

ECU (10-1) is off to its best start since the 2013 spring season, when the Pirates won 11 of their first 12 matches ECU ventured to New England last week and came away with three victories - a 4-0 win at UConn, a 7-0 win at Boston University and a 4-2 decision at Bryant, the winner of the last five Northeast Conference titles. Wisse Jonker has gone 10-1 at No. 3 singles to lead the Pirates, who face Stetson Saturday and Georgia Southern Sunday in Statesboro, Georgia.

Memphis (8-2) did not play last week. The Tigers head to New England for a pair of matches against Ivy League opponents this week, beginning with a Friday contest at Dartmouth. Memphis will be at Harvard Sunday.

USF (4-4) was idle last week. The Bulls have two home matches this week as Charlotte comes to town for a Friday matchup, while Mercer visits for a Saturday contest.

SMU (7-5) looks to bounce back after the Mustangs dropped a pair of dual matches last week. SMU fell 6-1 to No. 23 LSU and dropped a 4-3 decision to UT San Antonio. SMU is back in action Friday with a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist and Abilene Christian.

Temple (3-4) fell 4-3 to Navy in the Owls’ only dual match of last week. Temple’s doubles play has been the Owls’ strength through the 2019 season, but the doubles point proved to be the difference against the Midshipmen, who took all three contests. Temple is idle until a March 2 match against Bucknell.

Tulane (4-6), ranked No. 19 in the Feb. 6 Oracle/ITA rankings, came away without a win in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago last week. The Green Wave fell 4-0 to No. 1 Ohio State and No. 10 Stanford and was edged 4-3 by No. 14 Illinois. Tulane continues its challenging schedule with a Sunday match in New Orleans against No. 15 TCU.

Tulsa (9-4) fell 5-2 to LSU in the Golden Hurricane’s only match of the week. Tulsa got wins from the top two singles positions as Joshua Goodger won a three-set battle at No. 2 and Majed Kilani took a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1. Tulsa will host No. 9 Baylor Saturday.

Wichita State (4-6) fell 7-0 to No. 25 Minnesota and 5-2 to Western Michigan in a pair of matches in Minneapolis last week. The Shockers’ only match this week is a Saturday visit against Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire.
