PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly men's golf honors for the first week of the spring golf season.
MEN'S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Albin Bergstrom - USF - Fr. - Ljunghusen, Sweden
Bergstrom shot under par in all three rounds at the Florida Gators Invitational for second-place finish last week at the Mark Gostick Golf Course. The freshman carded a six-under 204 (67-68-69) on the par-70 course to lead the Bulls to a fourth-place finish against 14 other programs, half of which were ranked among the top-50 teams in the country. Against a field of 86 competitors, Bergstrom finished second with 14 total birdies and shot par or better on 46 total holes. He is now in the top-50 of the latest Golfstat rankings at No. 49.
AROUND THE AMERICAN
Bergstrom and USF started the spring strong with a fourth-place finish at the Florida Gator Invitational that featured seven teams that were ranked in the top-50 ... Houston boasts one of the top early-season team finishes as senior Matt Williams placed seventh overall in a field of 84 to pace the Cougars to second-place at the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston ... UCF was also at the Gator Invite and finished seventh behind senior Jalen Ledger's 3-over, 213, good for 23
rd overall ... ECU's Patrick Stephenson led the 75-player field at the Puerto Rico Classic in total pars.
