ECU sweeps American weekly baseball honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending Feb. 24.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alec Burleson * So. * DH/1B/LHP * ECU
Burleson continues to impress on the mound and at the plate, as the sophomore had at least three hits in four games throughout the week, going 9-for-16. He delivered the game-winning RBI in Game 1 of the series against the Hawks and ended the week with five RBIs, three doubles, four runs scored and his first-career home run. He picked up his second pitching win of the young season in Game 2 against Monmouth, while also going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Burleson fanned a career-high 10 batters through 7.0 innings, scattering one run on five hits.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jake Agnos * Jr. * LHP * ECU
Agnos earned his first win of the season, tossing seven scoreless innings where he allowed four hits, walked one and struck out 11 batters, tying his career-high in a 10-0 win over Monmouth. Agnos had at least one strikeout in all seven frames, recording multiple Ks in the first, third and fifth innings.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
Michael Woodworth * Sr. * OF * UConn
Woodworth had at least one hit in each game of a three-game series at Charleston, finishing the weekend 7-for-13 with four runs, three RBIs, a .615 slugging percentage and a double. He singled and scored twice in UConn’s 7-4 win Friday before registering 3-for-5 showings in the second and third games.
 
Joe Davis * Sr. * 1B * Houston
Davis hit three home runs and had seven RBIs, as Houston took two of three in a series against No. 24 Arizona. The senior finished 6-for-17 (.352) with five of his hits going for extra bases. He began the week with a 3-for-6 performance and four RBIs against McNeese State Wednesday. Davis hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning Friday night in Houston’s 2-1 win over the Wildcats in the series opener. He ended his week with a double, home run and two RBIs Sunday.
 
Logan Lyle * Jr. * LHP * USF
Lyle pitched 5.1 scoreless innings in two relief appearances against top-five opponents, striking out eight batters and allowing one hit and one walk. Lyle worked 2.0 scoreless innings against No. 4 Florida, striking out the side after entering the game with two men on and no outs. He retired all 10 North Carolina hitters he faced, striking out four.
 
Josh Bates * So. * RHP * Tulane
Bates picked up a win in his first start of the year Tuesday night in a 9-1 victory over Lamar. He limited the Cardinals to one hit and one unearned run through seven innings, striking out seven and walking two.
 
Luke Ritter * Sr. * 2B * Wichita State
Ritter led the Shockers with a .471 batting average in four games, going 8-for-17 with five runs, six RBIs, a double, and a two-run homer. He posted a .706 slugging percentage and a .591 on-base percentage for the week. Ritter went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs in an 18-2 win over Stephen F. Austin Saturday. He has reached safely in 20-straight games.
