PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s lacrosse honors, for the week ending Monday, Feb. 25.
Attacker of the Week
Monica Borzillo * Jr. * Cincinnati
Borzillo earned her second Attacker of the Week nod on the young season after averaging 5 goals and 2 assists over two games and totaling 14 points. The junior led the Bearcats with four goals and assist against No. 23 Virginia Tech, adding two ground balls and causing three turnovers in Cincinnati’s 8-19 loss. On Sunday, Borzillo unleashed six goals (3-for-3 on the free position) and three assists against Detroit Mercy, becoming the program’s all-time points leader (176) in the process. She also contributed six ground balls and two caused turnovers in Cincinnati’s 18-8 win. All said, Borzillo leads The American so far with 22 goals, 12 assists and 34 points.
Midfielder of the Week
Camryn Pennypacker * Fr. * ECU
Pennypacker completed a key 2-0 week for ECU with five goals and an assist for six points, along with three ground balls, six draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. In the Pirates’ 10-9 win at George Washington on Friday, Pennypacker was the top scorer with a hat trick and assist, including the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining. She additionally gathered two ground balls and three draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers. In ECU’s 16-2 win over Delaware State, she rounded out her week with two goals on two shots, three draw controls and a ground ball.
Defensive Player of the Week
Christina White * GK * So. * ECU
White registered the nation’s third-highest save total so far on the season against George Washington, making 19 stops to lift ECU to a 10-9 victory on Friday. She allowed just nine goals for a .679 save percentage, and stopped a GW free-position attempt with one minute left to keep the Pirates ahead by a score. White needed to make just one save in 24 minutes of action in ECU’s 16-2 win over Delaware State on Sunday, upping her season total to 60, which tops Division I.
Freshman of the Week
Callie Sundin * Fr. * M * Vanderbilt
Sundin buried a pair of goals and dished out an assist for Vanderbilt on Sunday, as the Commodores cruised to an 18-5 victory at Furman to remain unbeaten on the season. She converted on both of her shot attempts for her second-straight multi-goal outing, adding a ground ball and a pair of draw controls.
