PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s golf honors for the second week of the spring golf season.
 
MEN’S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mac Meissner – SMU – So. – San Antonio, Texas
Meissner, The American’s top-ranked golfer at No. 24 nationally, paced the No. 10 SMU Mustangs to a second-place finish last week at the Tiger Invitational behind only No. 7 Auburn. Meissner battle a tough field of 82 other competitors and 20-mile-per-hour wind gusts and finished third overall with a 3-under 213. He improved each round carding a par and then a five-under, final round 67 to finish just one stroke off the lead. The Mustangs also defeated No. 21 Arkansas State at 7,289-yard Grand National Lake Course.
 
 
AROUND THE AMERICAN
The American men’s golf programs now boasts two teams in the top-25 (No. 10 SMU and No. 23 USF) as well as six top-100 golfers … In addition to Meissner strong performance, SMU sophomore Noah Goodwin also carded an identical 3-under 213 to tie for third place at the Tiger Invitational … UConn senior Nick Harrington led the Huskies to a third-place finish as the Loyola Intercollegiate as he finished fourth overall and posted the best round of the tournament and his career with a six-under 66 … Cincinnati was led last week by No. 50-ranked Austin Squires who carded the best 36 holes of his career with a 9-under 135 (66, 69) for a third-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate …  Houston earned a second-place finish at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational behind a second overall individual performance by senior Matt Williams at 2-under 142 (70, 72) … Memphis senior Bradley Bawden became the first solo medalist for the Tigers in nearly three years as he carded a 4-under 212 at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
