Houston 9, Texas A&M 3
Houston scored six runs in the third inning on Wednesday night on the way to a 9-3 home victory over Texas A&M. Lindsey Stewart and Savannah Heebner each tallied two hits and an RBI, while Mya Thomas had a two-hit, two RBI night. Abby Odneal's two-run homer capped the night's scoring.
Heebner tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts as Houston won its eighth consecutive game.
USF 1, Florida Gulf Coast 0
Georgina Corrick served up 12 strikeouts to match her career-high in USF's 1-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast. Due to weather, the USF and FGCU doubleheader dropped to just a single-game matchup on Wednesday night.
The Bulls jumped ahead in the first inning when AnaMarie Bruni doubled and later scored when Megan Pierro hit a sacrifice fly to right field for a 1-0 lead that the Bulls would never lose. Corrick faced 29 batters, striking out 12 to hit double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time in her career. She walked three batters (two intentional walks) and allowed just three hits in her second complete game this season.
Mississippi State 10, Memphis 7
Memphis suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Mississippi State Wednesday evening by a score of 10-7. Mississippi State took an early two run lead in the first before the Tigers responded with a five-run second inning, only to have the visitors post a four run frame in the fourth to regain the lead. Memphis scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a one-run advantage into the seventh, but a two-out grand slam by Mississippi State was the difference.
Baylee Smith hit two home runs for the Tigers and drove in four runs, while Delaney Smith registered two hits of her own, including her second triple of the season. Mariah Nichols earned the start pitched four innings, allowing six runs (two earned). Bayleigh Wisher took the loss after three innings of relief, allowing four runs on the seventh inning grand slam.
Louisiana Tech 2, UCF 0 (suspended - Top 4th)
Due to rain, the contest between UCF and Louisiana Tech was suspended until Thursday afternoon with Louisiana Tech leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth with one out. The Lady Techsters scored both runs in the first inning with a single up the middle and a bases-loaded walk. Takiya London has the sole hit for UCF with a double off the left field wall. Alea White recorded four strikeouts and three hits through 3.1 innings pitched.
