Temple's Davis, Memphis' Shutes Tabbed as Weekly Women's Basketball Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 3.
 
Player of the Week
Mia Davis * So. * F * Temple

Davis averaged 27.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in Temple’s 2-0 week, with both victories coming on the road. At Tulsa on Tuesday, she scored 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting while pulling down nine boards in 33 minutes of work. Davis followed on Saturday with a career-high 30 points at Wichita State, adding 13 rebounds and a pair of assists. The sophomore registered half of her points in the fourth quarter alone, posting 15 points and seven rebounds as the Owls outpaced the Shockers 20-1 in the last 10 minutes. Davis currently ranks second in The American at 18.8 points per game and third at 8.7 rebounds per game.
 
Freshman of the Week
Jamirah Shutes * Fr. * G * Memphis
Shutes finished Memphis’ 1-1 week averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, exploding for a career-high performance against Tulsa on Saturday. She led Memphis with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, recording four rebounds, two blocks and a steal as the Tigers completed an 11-point comeback in the second half. Earlier in the week, Shutes scored nine points, totaled five rebounds and dished out four assists in a narrow overtime loss to Tulane.

Averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in UCF’s 2-0 week, totaling 22 points on 10-of-20 shooting in Sunday’s War on I4 win over USF; the contest marked her ninth 20-plus point outing of the season

Posted back-to-back double-digit scoring games on 12-of-24 shooting for the week as Cincinnati went 1-1; scored 18 at USF on Wednesday and followed with 14 including four 3-pointers against UConn on Saturday

Reached the 2,000 career-point and 1,000 career-rebound milestones in the Huskies 1-1 week; averaged 20 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while converting on 56.7 percent from the field, totaling eight assists, four steals and two blocks

Dropped a career-high 34 points at Tulsa on Tuesday, tying the conference’s single-game high for the season; finished the Owls’ 2-0 week averaging 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game
