ECU and Houston take home weekly baseball honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 10.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joe Davis * Jr. * 1B * Houston
Davis anchored the Cougars’ offense through a 3-1 week, including a three-game series sweep of Army. The junior first baseman went 10-for-16 (.625) with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs and two runs scored. Recording a hit in all four games during the week, he had a multi-hit performance in each contest against the Black Knights. On Sunday, Davis went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, including a two-run walk-off home run Sunday to complete the sweep. Davis went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run in Game 1 and went 2-for-3 with a double in the second game of the series.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jake Kuchmaner * So. * LHP * ECU
Striking out a career-high nine batters, Kuchmaner led ECU to a 3-2 win at No. 10 Ole Miss. Kuchmaner took a no-hitter into the ninth inning (8.2 innings) before giving up his only hit of the day with two down in the final frame. Allowing only two runners to reach through eight innings of work, he fanned multiple hitters in an inning three times and retired the first 13 batters he faced.  
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
Wyatt Stapp * So. * 3B * Cincinnati
Stapp was the difference-maker for the Bearcats in a Sunday doubleheader sweep of Bowling Green, hitting a walk-off RBI single during a pinch-hit at-bat in the 10th inning of Game 1. He followed that performance with a double and a game-tying two-run home run in the second game of the series to hand Cincinnati the series in its home opener.
 
Turner Brown * Sr. * SS * ECU
Brown batted .421 (8-for-19) during the Pirates’ 4-1 week, which included a win at No. 10 Ole Miss and a series sweep of Marist. He slugged .842 and enjoyed a pair of three-hit games. Brown reached safely 11 times on the week and registered two triples in the Pirates’ series finale against Marist Sunday.
 
Devon Roedahl * Jr. * RHP * Houston
Roedahl earned a save Saturday and tossed 4.0 shutout innings in relief through two appearances in the Cougars’ sweep of Army last weekend. He scattered three hits, while walking one and recorded five strikeouts.
 
Hunter Goodman * Fr. * OF/DH * Memphis
Goodman hit .429 on the week (9-for-21) and scored six runs. The freshman also tallied three RBIs, two doubles and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases in the series sweep at Western Kentucky. Goodman recorded multiple hits in all four games during the week, including a 3-for-5 showing with a double and RBI in Game 1 of the series against the Hilltoppers.
 
Alec Wisely * Sr. * RHP * USF
Wisely matched a career long with 7.0 innings pitched to earn his first win of the year in Game 2 of the weekend series against Liberty. He struck out two and allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits. In the fifth inning, Wisely retired nine of the next 10 before being relieved in the eighth.
