Highlights

Florida 15, Elon 5
The 16th-ranked Florida Gators were victorious over Elon on Thursday evening, defeating the Phoenix, 15-5 at Rudd Field.

The Gators caused a total of 15 turnovers, including three from Kaitlyn Dabkowski, really controlling the game from the start. The 15 caused turnovers was the fourth-best total in program history.

The squad also held the 17-5 draw control advantage over the Phoenix – led by ­seven from Sabrina Cristodero.

Sydney Pirreca led the Gators' offensive effort, registering three goals on the night. Lindsey Ronbeck, Brianna Harris and Grace Haus also pitched in two goals apiece to help secure the victory for Florida.

The effort on the defensive side of the field was the difference-maker in the game. The Gators recorded eight caused turnovers in the first half of the game, led by two from Sabrina Cristodero.

Pirreca got the Gators off to a hot start in the second half, scoring two goals in just over two minutes to give Florida the 9-2 lead. Elon was able to get one back, but Shannon Kavanagh posted her first goal of the game to give the Gators the 10-3 lead.

The Gators were able to hold on to the 10-goal lead for the final two minutes of the game, giving the squad its second win of the season.

San Diego State 15, Vanderbilt 14
Vanderbilt's perfect start to 2019 ended as it fell to San Diego State on the road in double overtime, 15-14, Friday night at Aztec Lacrosse Field.

The Commodores (5-1) held the Aztecs scoreless for nine straight minutes before finally surrendering the game-winning goal in the second overtime period.

It was a back and forth game throughout, with the largest lead belonging to the Aztecs at the 5-2 mark just eight minutes into the game.

Gabby Fornia tied a career-high with three goals with her third goal tying the game in the final two minutes at 14-14 to end up sending the game to overtime.

Hadley Brown also secured a hat trick with her best scoring performance of the season. Brown scored all of her goals in the first half, with her third goal coming off an assist from Fornia, who currently leads the team with 11 assists.

Julie Blaze and Gwyn Devin each had another multi-goal game for the Commodores as both poured in two apiece.

Temple 16, UMBC 12
hree Owls recorded hat tricks in leading Temple lacrosse (3-4) to a 16-12 win at UMBC (2-4) on Saturday afternoon. Temple had the lead all game long and tallied 25 shots on goal to the Retrievers' 16.

Junior Maddie Gebert scored the Owls' first three goals of the game to put Temple ahead 3-1, and UMBC was never able to tie.

Ball control was a big strength for the Owls, who committed just 10 turnovers to UMBC's 19, and recorded 10 caused turnovers while UMBC had just four. Temple was successful on all 18 of its clear attempts in the contest. The Owls closed the first half on a 4-0 run for a 10-5 halftime lead, and UMBC came within no fewer than three goals the rest of the way.

Gebert finished with a season-high four goals, while junior Meghan Hoffman also scored four goals which is her career high.

Hoffman and sophomore Bridget Whitaker both totaled a team-best five points. Hoffman added one assist to four goals, while Whitaker added three assists to two goals.

Senior Amber Lambeth was the third player to notch a hat trick for Temple with three goals.

Florida 16, High Point 15
The No. 16 Gators closed out their four-game road stretch on a high note, defeating High Point, 16-15 at Vert Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Lindsey Ronbeck and Shannon Kavanagh had a day for the Gators – each recording five goals. Ronbeck finished with seven points, while Kavanagh added six of her own. Kassidy Bresnahan also recorded three points on two goals and one assist.

Ronbeck controlled the draw circle for the Gators, winning a career-best 10 draws.

Florida held High Point to a .441 shooting clip (15-of-34) and caused 13 turnovers on the day, led by two from Kassidy Bresnahan, Shannon Kavanagh, Caroline May and Kaitlyn Dabkowski.

Haley Hicklen posted 11 saves, notching a .423 saves percentage. The senior also recorded a game-high five groundballs.

High Point then went on a spurt to take the 14-13 lead with 11:07 remaining in the game, but then Haus tied the game up at 14-14 after converting on her free-position attempt – her first goal of the day.

High Point took the 15-14 lead with 8:05 remaining and it seemed as though they had all the momentum to close out the game, but Ronbeck tied the game on an unassisted, man-up goal.

Still up a player due to an unreleaseable High Point penalty, Ronbeck found Kavanagh for the game-winning goal, her fifth of the day.

Vermont 18, ECU 9
A scoreless streak to open the second half doomed the ECU women's lacrosse team to a 18-9 loss to visiting Vermont on Sunday afternoon. 

ECU (5-3) drops a home game for the first time in four tries this season. It is also the first time the Pirates have lost consecutive games this year. Vermont (4-1) improves to a perfect 3-0 on the road.

The Pirates’ early lead was wiped out by a 6-0 Vermont run. Janes was at the center of it for Vermont, assisting on goals from Elise Koehl and Maris Large before scoring a pair of her own. Grace Giancola and Taylor Mullen added a goal each to make it 7-3 Vermont with 4:50 remaining in the first half.

Brittany Borchers finally broke the Vermont run when she scored an unassisted goal, but Janes followed with two more goals, giving her five in the first half.

Megan Pallozzi had three goals to lead ECU while Borchers had a goal and two assists. Christina White made eight saves in goal while Camryn Pennypacker had four draw controls.

Boston University 12, Temple 9
After battling back to take a 9-8 lead, Temple lacrosse gave up four goals in the final seven minutes and ultimately lost 12-9 to visiting Boston University (4-3) on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls (3-5) had a lead in shots on goal, but the Terriers' goalkeeper came up with 17 total saves.

Temple trailed 7-3 early in the second half before coming back with a 5-0 run to take its first lead at 8-7. The Owls had one more lead at 9-8 with 10:31 remaining, but couldn't get another goal the rest of the way. Temple finished with a 26-19 lead in shots on goal and a 40-30 lead in total shots. The Owls also had a strong advantage on the draw with 16 draw controls to BU's seven.

Juniors Meghan Hoffman, Olivia Thompson and Abby Overman all scored two goals apiece for the Owls. On a free-position opportunity, junior defender Kara Nakrasius scored her first career goal to cap the Owls' 5-0 run. Also scoring one goal each were senior Quinn Benintende and sophomore Jen Rodzewich, with Rodzewich adding an assist.
