American Athletic Conference Golf Weekly Honors: March 13

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s and women’s golf honors for the fourth week of the spring golf season.
 
MEN’S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Albin Bergstrom – USF – Fr. – Ljunghusen, Sweden
Bergstrom, who earns his second-straight American Golf Player of the Week honor and third this season, carded three rounds of par or better on the way to registering his second runner-up finish of the spring at The USF Invitational. It was his fifth straight top-five performance of the season. Bergstrom, who won the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate on March 5, has shot par or better in 12-straight team rounds, dating back to the fall finale. This week, he led the Bulls with 14 total birdies and shot par or better on 47-of-54 holes to lead USF to its latest victory. Bergstrom is up to 42 in the Golfstat rankings while USF sits at No. 20 in the latest poll.
 
WOMEN’S GOLF PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Dorthea Forbrigd – ECU – Jr. – Oslo, Norway
Both Forbrigd and Moon competed at the University of Florida’s Lady Gator Invite and the duo tied for second with identical 3-under 207’s. The Pirate junior shot a new career-low 54-hole score of 207. It was her second top-two finish of the season and fifth top-20 placement on the year. Forbrigd has recorded seven career top-five finishes and her score of 207 is tied for second in the program annuals with Frida Gustafsson Spang (Minnesota Invitational, Fall 2014). On the final day of competition, she carded a personal-best 65 (five-under) registering six birdies, one bogey and 11 pars. Forbrigd ranked among the tournament leaders in four stat categories including par-3 scoring (first, 5-under), total birdies (fourth, 11), par-4 scoring (10th, 2-over) and total pars (15, 36). She moved up to 55 in the latest Golfstat rankings
 
Elizabeth Moon – UCF – Fr. – Forest City, Ark.
Moon finished tied for runner-up honors at the Florida Gators Invitational with Forbrigd. As a team, the Knights were seventh after the three-round event, held at Mark Bostick Golf Course. Moon is now up to No. 73 in the nation in the latest Golfstat rankings. Moon was just one stroke off the pace of Tennessee's Micheala Williams, who was 5-under for the day and finished the tournament 4-under. Moon carded a third-round 68 (2-under) to finish 4-under for the tournament. She also notched three birdies in her final round and just one bogey. She was in the top-six of both Par 3 and Par 4 scoring. Moon defeated nine Top-100 golfers and eight who were ranked ahead of her in the rankings.
 
 
AROUND THE AMERICAN
SMU Freshman Noah Goodwin and Junior Jackson Markham finished tied for sixth at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Tuesday. Going into the final round, Goodwin and Markham were on par. They finished the final round and the tournament 1-over par. Markham was competing individually … ECU finished in seventh-place with a 54-hole total of 9-over-par 873 at the General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. The Pirates shot 1-over-par 289 in Tuesday's final round to move up three spots in the final standings … Houston junior Logan Young closed out the Border Olympics Final Round with a 69 to lead the Cougars on the final day and tie for 10th overall at 4-under 212 on Tuesday afternoon …Memphis maintained its position after 36 holes and held on to fifth place in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate during the final round Tuesday at Palmetto Golf Club. The Tigers shot 14-over 294, but no one passed them Tuesday in the 18-team event.  … Redshirt senior John Barone tied for 21st overall to lead Temple to a 10th place finish at the 22nd Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Tuesday.
 
Five American Athletic conference women’s golfers are the top-100 of the latest Golfstat rankings … The American is also up to five teams in the top-75 nationally … ECU finished fifth overall at Florida’s Lady Gator invite while UCF placed seventh … Wichita State was back in action as Laine Evans shot the back nine holes with seven pars and two birdies to finials the Jackrabbit Invitational tied for 17th. The senior finished the final 18 holes with a 77 to claim her third top 20 finish of the season, and 14th in her college career in the process.
