ECU’s Kuchmaner and UCF’s Osik earn weekly baseball honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 17.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Osik * R-Sr. * 1B/C * UCF
Osik powered UCF’s offense through a 4-1 week, which included a midweek sweep of Yale and series win over VCU. He hit .524 and slugged .762 with 11 hits, nine runs scored, five RBIs, two doubles, a home run and four stolen bases. The redshirt senior had four multi-hit performances, including three hits in Game 1 against Yale and Game 2 against VCU. Osik extended his hitting streak to seven games and on-base streak to 18 games.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jake Kuchmaner * So. * LHP * ECU
After earning National Player of the Week honors, Kuchmaner picks up his second-straight American Pitcher of the Week nod after tossing the 28th perfect game in NCAA Division I history. Kuchmaner struck out eight batters, allowing no hits, runs, or walks in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Maryland to complete a weekend sweep of the Terrapins. Retiring all 27 hitters he faced, Kuchmaner recorded at least one strikeout in seven frames with two in the eighth. A week ago, Kuchmaner came one out away from registering a no-hitter at No. 10 Ole Miss. On the week, he appeared in two games allowing one run (earned) on one hit with 14 strikeouts to three walks in 14.2 innings. Kuchmaner’s other outing was in relief at No. 24 Duke where he allowed a run (earned) on one hit in 5.2 innings, which included six strikeouts and three walks.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Trevor Holloway * Jr. * RHP * UCF
Trevor Holloway fired seven shutout innings on Sunday, in an 8-2 win over VCU. The righty struck out a career-high seven batters, while setting a career low with no walks issued. He retired the side in order four times in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings. 
 
Chris Winkel * Jr. * 1B * UConn
Winkel hit .412 and slugged .706 through UConn’s weekend sweep of Michigan State. He had a hit in each game of the series, including multiple hits in Games 1 and 2. He went 3-for-5 in the second game of the series with four RBIs and two doubles. In total, he finished the weekend with seven RBIs, seven hits, four runs scored, three doubles and a triple.
 
Joe Davis * Sr. * 1B * Houston
Davis had eight RBIs and slugged .769, as the Cougars won their series against Dallas Baptist. The senior first baseman hit two home runs, bringing his total to eight this season, which ranks second in The American. Davis went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in an 8-6 series opener win against the Patriots on Friday.
 
Joe Genord * Sr. * 1B * USF
Genord hit .529 through a 4-1 week, including a three-game sweep of Dartmouth and a midweek win at Bethune-Cookman. He recorded three doubles, a home run, five runs scored and three RBIs, slugging .882 with a .591 on-base percentage. He had a career-high four hits and a homer at Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday and hit in all but one of the five games this week.
 
Chase Solesky * R-So. * RHP * Tulane
Solesky helped the Green Wave seal its weekend series against UC Riverside, pitching 7.0 shutout innings in Sunday’s 10-0 rubber-match win. The righthander struck out a career-high 11 batters and allowed no walks, while scattering three hits. Solesky stayed perfect through the first 5.2 frames of his outing.
