2019 NCAA BRACKET | 2019 POSTSEASON WNIT
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UConn and UCF were selected to the 2019 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship field on Monday evening, while Cincinnati, Houston and USF were all named to the 2019 Postseason WNIT. 2019 marks the second-straight year the American Athletic Conference has placed five women’s basketball squads in postseason competition.
The Huskies (31-2) secured the No. 2 seed in the Albany Region will make the program’s 31
st NCAA Championship appearance. For the sixth-consecutive year, UConn earned The American’s automatic bid as the conference tournament champions. The Huskies will open their tournament slate at home in Storrs, Conn. against No. 15 seed Towson, the automatic bid from the Colonial Athletic Association, on Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. ET. UConn will also host the No. 7-No. 10 match-up between Rutgers and Buffalo on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET, with the winners of both first round contests meeting on Sunday.
UCF (26-6) claims the program’s first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Championship and its first appearance since 2011. The Knights have posted the most wins in program history, and advanced to The American championship game for the first time. UCF is the No. 12 seed in the Portland Region, and will play in its home state on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. ET against No. 5 Arizona State in Coral Gables, Fla. Friday’s winner will meet the winner of No. 4 Miami and No. 13 FGCU on Sunday.
Cincinnati (21-10) was selected to the WNIT field for the second-straight year, this season as the conference’s automatic bid by virtue of its third-place finish in the regular season. Houston (15-15), The American’s fourth-place squad was also selected to the Postseason WNIT for the second-consecutive season, while USF (18-15) will compete in the postseason for the eighth-consecutive year.
In the WNIT First Round, the Bearcats host Youngstown State and USF hosts Stetson on Thursday, while Houston will travel to Arkansas. The 2019 WNIT Championship will be played on Saturday, April 6 and televised live on CBS Sports Network at 3 p.m. ET. All games are hosted by participating institutions.
The 2019 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four will be held in Tampa, Fla. Friday, April 5 and Sunday, April 7 at Amalie Arena.
