PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s first 2019 weekly outdoor track and field honors for the week ending March 17.
MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amere Lattin * Sr. * Houston * Missouri City, Texas
Lattin made his outdoor debut at the Houston Spring Break Invitational less than a week after earning All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He clocked the nation’s leading time of 49.82 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, just two-hundredths of a second off a world leading time to win the event. Lattin is a two-time American Athletic Conference champion in this event.
FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Helene Gottlieb * So. * Temple * Hoersholm, Denmark
Gottlieb started off her outdoor campaign at the Charlotte 49er Classic with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run, clocking 2:08.51. Her time ranks fourth in the nation in the young season and currently leads The American and East Region. Gottlieb placed fourth in this event at The American Outdoor Championships a year ago. Gottlieb also ran the anchor leg of her team’s 4x400-meter relay (3:49.40) against a challenging field.
MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Adar Sheere * Fr. * Memphis * Givatayim Center, Israel
Sheere shot atop The American’s performance list in the discus and hammer throws in his outdoor debut at the Rhodes Invitational. He won the discus throw with a toss of 56.40 meters (185’0”). His distance ranks ninth nationally and third in the NCAA East Region. He also registered the top hammer throw in the league (55.33 meters). Sheere posted a podium finish at the conference’s Indoor Championships in February with a third-place finish in the weight throw.
FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nicole Iloanya * Sr. * SMU * Arlington, Texas
Iloanya won the triple jump at the Houston Spring Break Invitational to open the season. She tied her personal record, reaching 12.96 meters (42' 6.25") on her second attempt for first place, as her distance leads The American and ranks third nationally.
