Houston 2, Baylor 0; Houston 6, Baylor 1
Houston put its leather on display Tuesday in route to a pair of midweek wins at Baylor. With the wins, Houston has now won four of the last six matchups between the two squads. The Cougars opened the day with a 2-0 shutout victory and followed that with a 6-1 win over the Lady Bears. Houston's shutout marked its 12th of the year, as Baylor was held scoreless for just the second time this season.
Defensive highlights proved to be the stronghold for the Cougars on Tuesday, throwing runners out at the plate and converting a plethora of multiple-out plays as well. On the day, Sarah Barker went 3-7 with a pair of runs scored and a run batted in. Sarah Queen drove in three runs in game two with her two-out double in the fourth. With a run scored in the bottom of the fifth in the second game, pitcher Trystan Melancon had her scoreless inning streak ended at 21 innings.
UConn 8, Bethune-Cookman 0
Visiting UConn scored six runs in the top of the first inning on Wednesday afternoon and never looked back, defeating Bethune-Cookman by an 8-0 score. Briana Marcelino was 3-for-3 at the top of the order as the Huskies collected 13 hits as a team. Alexis Lemus and Carissa Brizzi each drove in two RBI for UConn, who saw Katie Koshes allow just one hit over three innings and strike out three batters to earn the win.
UCF 8, Princeton 1
UCF plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning Tuesday night as the Knights defeated visiting Princeton 8-1 for their 20th win of the season. Erin Emanuel was the only Knight to record two hits, including a home run in the sixth, as Cassady Brewer drove in two runs and Tamesha Glover and Takiya London each had a double. Alea White earned the win with four innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters.
Tulsa 3, No. 21 Oklahoma State 0
Tori Stafford's three-run homer was all the offense that Tulsa needed as the Golden Hurricane knocked off No. 21 Oklahoma State, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at Collins Family Softball Complex.
The blast backed Chenise Delce's one-hitter as the freshman improved to 7-3 on the season and extended Tulsa's winning streak to seven games. The Golden Hurricane also picked up its 12th victory in the last 13 matchups with the Cowgirls. A capacity crowd of 1,097 was treated to a pitcher's duel early on as Delce, who finished with seven strikeouts, and OSU hurler Samanta Clakley each carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.
Wichita State 11, Kansas 10 (9 innings)
Neleigh Herring's RBI single into left field in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Wichita State an 11-10 victory over Kansas at home on Wednesday night. Madison Perrigan led off the inning with a single before a bunt and a single from Ryleigh Buck put runners on the corners and set up Herring's walk-off.
Wichita State jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the second inning before Kansas plated the next nine runs to take a lead into the sixth, where the Shockers plated three runs and added two more in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Asea Webber tallied four hits, including a homer, and two RBI, while Sydney McKinney had three hits and Bailee Nickerson had three RBI. Caitlin Bingham earned the win after four innings of relief, allowing one run and one hit while striking out five.
