PROVIDENCE, R.I. – ECU infielder Brady Lloyd and Wichita State infielder Luke Ritter were each named among 30 candidates competing for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award in college baseball the organization announced Friday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Lloyd, who sports a 3.71 cumulative GPA in health fitness, is a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection and a five-time ECU Directors of Athletics Honor Roll member. He has also helped the Pirates achieve 3,000 hours of community service working with various programs in the Pitt Country area. On the year, Lloyd has started all 21 games at second base where he is batting .262 (17-for-65) with nine RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has tallied three game-winning RBIs with two coming in a series sweep over Marist.
Ritter, a finance major with a 3.24 GPA, was named to The American’s All-Academic team in the Shockers’ inaugural season with the conference in 2018. A first-team All-Conference selection a year ago, Ritter is batting .405 on the this season with 32 hits—each good for ranking third in the conference. He also had seven doubles, 18 RBIs, 53 total bases, a .671 slugging percentage, four home runs and a triple. Ritter has reached safely in 32-straight games dating back to last season.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 College World Series® in June.
Conference play for The American begins Friday.
