PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s lacrosse honors, for the week ending Monday, March 4.
Attacker of the Week
Emily Mathewson * Jr. * Vanderbilt
Mathewson netted the game-winning goal in overtime against Louisville on Feb. 27, finding the back of the net with just four seconds remaining in overtime. Her score pushed Vanderbilt to a perfect 4-0 on the season, and was part of a game that saw Mathewson score twice on three shots. Her first goal sparked the Commodores’ 7-0 run to put the visitors in front. She added a caused turnover and a pair of draw controls in the 9-8 win.
Midfielder of the Week
Nicole LeGar * So. * ECU
LeGar registered her second hat trick of the season as ECU won its third-straight contest with a 16-8 decision over Saint Francis on Sunday. The sophomore additionally led all players with 10 draw controls and collected a ground ball. All three of LeGar’s goals came in the second half, as the Pirates have defeated all four of their non-ranked opponents on the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Lily Argyle * GK * R-Jr. * Vanderbilt
Argyle posted the best outing of her career at an opportune time for Vanderbilt, making 14 saves as the Commodores prevailed 9-8 in overtime at Louisville on Feb. 27. In all 66 minutes, she posted a .636 save percentage and made a save in the extra period to keep Vanderbilt alive until Emily Mathewson’s game-winning goal with four seconds remaining.
Freshman of the Week
Kylie Nause * M * Cincinnati
Nause was the offensive spark for Cincinnati in a pair of games last week, totaling seven goals. Her week included her first career multi-goal game as well as her first career hat trick, as she scored three times to go along with a caused turnover, a draw control and a ground ball against Central Michigan. Nause then led the Bearcats in scoring at No. 20 Michigan, tallying four goals.
Weekly Honor Roll
Camryn Pennypacker * M * Fr. * ECU
Scored twice against Saint Francis for her third-straight multi-goal game, including a free position goal; added four draw controls and a caused turnover en route to the Pirates’ 16-8 win
Lindsey Ronbeck * A * Sr. * Florida
Posted a team-high four goals along with two assists for six points against No. 17 Navy, along with four draw controls; has now posted a hat trick or better in all four games for Florida this season and leads the conference with 4.85 goals per game
Gwyn Devin * M * Jr. * Vanderbilt
Registered a hat trick to lead Vanderbilt in scoring against Louisville as the Commodores clinched a 9-8 win in overtime; scored three straight times, including two straight before halftime and another out of the break
