Bergstrom Earns Second Men’s Golf Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the winner of the league's weekly men's and golf honor for the third week of the spring golf season.

MEN'S GOLF PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Albin Bergstrom - USF - Fr. - Ljunghusen, Sweden
Bergstrom earns his second weekly honor in the past three weeks as he set a USF program record at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate. The rookie now owns the program's new 36- and 54-hole scoring records for a par-72 tournament while capturing his first individual collegiate title. He finished with a 15-under 201 (67, 66, 68). Bergstrom led the 75-player field in par-4 scoring (3.73) and par-5 scoring (4.50) and collected the most birdies with 19. The freshman also carded an eagle and shot par or better on 49 of 54 holes. His performance helped the now No. 22-ranked Bulls to a team win as they ran away from the field in a 23-shot victory.

Eight American Athletic Conference men's golf teams were in action last week ... UConn placed two players in the top-10 and four players among the top-20 as it notched its fifth top-three finish in six events this year, grabbing a tie for third place in the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate tournament ... ECU rallied from a 10th-place standing and 18-stroke deficit after one round at the ECU Intercollegiate to claim the 54-hole tournament at the Brook Valley Country Club. Pirates junior Patrick Stephenson finished runner-up with a 4-under-par 212, including a 5-under-par 67 No. 10 SMU bested Nevada in a dual match at The Hideaway Golf Club as the Mustangs won five out of six pairings. Sophomore Noah Goodwin had the best win for the team, beating opponent Trey Davis up four holes with three left to play ... Houston sophomore Alexander Frances finished the Cabo Collegiate at Querencia in a tie for 15th with a score of 1-under 212 to lead the Cougars to a ninth-place finish as UH finished behind only top-50 teams in the rankings ... Cincinnati senior AustinSquires carded a tied for 10th at even par 216 (70-73-73) at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C, as the Bearcats posted a 7-over 295 to finish 11th ... Memphis also competed in the Colleton River Collegiate and finished sixth overall behind top-25 finishes from Nick Giles (20th, 3-over, 219) and Isaiah Jackson(23rd, 4-over, 220).
