PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 14 ECU took down No. 10 Ole Miss 3-2 on the road Wednesday to highlight The American’s midweek baseball action. UCF walked off against Ball State in extra innings, while Tulane posted another big offensive outing Wednesday. All nine conference baseball teams return to action this weekend for three-game series.
The Pirates kept the streak alive for The American, as a conference team has taken down a top-25 opponent in each of the first four weeks of the young season. American teams have combined for 10 wins against ranked opponents.
ECU starter Jake Kuchmaner was one out away from a no-hitter Wednesday, tossing 8.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit. He racked up a career-high nine strikeouts in the win. Spencer Brickhouse hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Pirates the lead for good. ECU will return home this weekend when it plays host to Marist in a three-game series at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
UCF answered twice in extra innings, as the Knights completed a 9-8 come-from-behind walk-off win over Ball State with a three-run rally in the 13th inning. The Knights overcame an 8-6 deficit thanks to two hits and four walks in the 13th, capped by Pero Castellano’s RBI single to right field to hand the Knights the win. UCF will stay at John Euliano Park this weekend, welcoming Penn State for a three-game series.
Tulane’s offense has been firing on all cylinders. The Green Wave leads The American with a .332 batting average, 120 runs, 154 hits, 18 home runs, a .537 slugging percentage and .432 on-base percentage. Tulane reached double-digit hits for the ninth time this year and registered double-digit runs for the fifth time in a 13-1 win over Texas Southern Wednesday night. Tulane continues a 12-game homestand this weekend, hosting UC Santa Barbara for a three-game series.

USF swept Western Michigan in a three-game series last weekend and will look to keep it going at home over the weekend when its hosts Liberty in a three-game series. Kyle Phillips (.350) and Joe Genord (.333) lead the Bulls at the plate this year. Genord is on a seven-game hitting streak, while Jordan Santos has reached base safely in nine games.
