Goodman and Agnos collect first April baseball honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 31.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hunter Goodman * Fr. * DH/OF * Memphis
Goodman hit .562 (9-for-16) with seven RBIs, two home runs and a .938 slugging percentage on the week to lead the Tigers in a series win over Houston. The rookie had at least one base knock in each game, including three multi-hit efforts. He started the week with four hits and two stolen bases against No. 22 Ole Miss Tuesday night. He then went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a three-run homer in Game 1 against Houston. Goodman had another two-hit showing and drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning with his second homer of the week in Game 2 of the weekend series. He registered an RBI single in the series finale Sunday.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jake Agnos * Jr. * LHP * ECU
Agnos tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts through six scoreless innings in a 4-0 series-opening win Friday at USF. The lefthander surrendered only three hits and recorded at least one strike out in all six innings, including multiple Ks in the first, second and third frames. He allowed just three base runners to reach second base through his outing.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
Grant Schuermann * R-Sr. * LHP * UCF
Grant Schuermann threw a complete game on Friday night to power UCF to a 2-1 series-opening win over UConn. He scattered four hits and issued just one free pass—a walk to lead off the ninth. The southpaw struck out four in his first complete game as a Knight, allowing only two Huskies to advance to second base all night. The only run he allowed came from a solo shot in the fifth inning.
 
Anthony Prato * Jr. * SS * UConn
Prato hit .444 (8-for-18) through a 5-0 week. He racked up six RBIs, a double and a home run, while slugging .667 and reaching base in each game. He tallied two hits in both of the Huskies’ midweek wins over Hartford and Boston College. Prato capped the week with a 3-for-4 performance in Sunday’s 10-0 rubber-match win at UCF. He drove in three runs and hit a two-run homer in the series finale.  
 
Alec Burleson * So. * OF/1B/LHP * ECU
Burleson batted a team-high .538 (7-for-13) and hit a pair of solo home runs in ECU’s second-straight weekend sweep. He collected at least two hits in all three games and drove in four runs on the weekend, while slugging 1.000.
 
Joe Davis * Sr. * 1B * Houston
Davis slugged .947, registering 10 RBIs and three home runs while batting .421 (8-for-19) in a 3-2 week. He helped the Cougars overcame a 3-0 deficit in Sunday’s series finale at Memphis with an RBI double, tying The American’s career record with 51 doubles. He also had a 4-for-5 performance with six RBIs and two home runs in a 16-1 runs-rule win at Stephen F. Austin Wednesday.
 
Liam Eddy * So. * RHP * Wichita State
Eddy tossed seven scoreless innings in relief to earn the win in an 11-4 series-opening win over Bethune-Cookman Friday. He scattered one hit while tallying a career-best seven strikeouts with one walk on 82 pitches.
