Florida's Shannon Kavanagh Added to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (FloridaGators.com) - Sophomore Shannon Kavanagh was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday night.

Kavanagh joins seniors Haley Hicklen, Lindsey Ronbeck and Sydney Pirreca, as well as junior Cara Trombetta who were named to the preseason Watch List back in February.

Overall, the Gators have had 16 players earn 29 Tewaaraton Award nominations in the 10-year history of Florida lacrosse, with four finalists.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United State. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Kavanagh's Profile:
  • - Kavanagh has appeared in 34 games as a Gator, starting each of them
  • - She has racked up 112 points on 77 goals and 35 assists during her tenure
  • - Kavanagh just became the 16th Gator to reach the 100 point milestone, doing so in just 32 games, making her the third-fastest Gator in program history
  • - She is also just the sixth Florida player to complete that task before the end of her sophomore season
  • - Kavanagh has been on fire this season, notching nine hat tricks - including six in a row. This has led to six AAC Midfielder of the Week honors in the 2019 season
  • - The Smithtown, N.Y. native also makes her presence known in the draw circle, having won a -team-best 55 this season and 144 total in her career
  • - She is sixth all-time at Florida with her 144 draw controls through just 34 games and is second all-time in draw controls per game (4.24)
  • - She currently sits fifth in program history in points per game (3.29) and goals per game (2.26). -- Kavanagh is also third in program history in assists per game (1.03)
  • - Kavanagh was the 2018 BIG EAST Co-Freshman of the Year and earned All-Region honors as well

On April 25, a list of Top-25 Nominees will be released. Five finalists will be announced on May 9, with the Tewaaraton Ceremony set for May 30 in Washington, DC.
