UConn, Memphis, Temple and Wichita State take home weekly awards


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field honors for the week ending April 14.
                
MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Davon DeMoss* Sr. * Memphis * Jackson, Tenn.
DeMoss, who earned All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships in early March, was a double-winner at the Alabama Crimson Tide Invitational, taking first place in the 100-meter dash, while also winning the 4x100-meter relay title. The senior sprinter turned in two NCAA top-25 performances, winning the 100m in a season-best 10.25 seconds (No. 21 in the nation) and placing fifth in the 200-meter dash in 20.72 seconds (No. 25 in the nation). His 100m time is a Crimson Tide Invite record and ranks 11th in the NCAA East region. He also ran a leg on the first-place 4x100m relay squad, which finished in a time of 39.69 seconds, good for ranking 11th in the NCAA East region.
 
FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Millie Howard * Jr. * Temple * North Yorkshire, England
Howard clocked the fifth-fastest 1,500-meter run in the nation (4:16.81) at the Bison Outdoor Classic, resetting her own school record in the event by almost two seconds. She finished first among NCAA competitors and second place overall in a competitive 61-person field of the seeded portion of the event. Howard’s time is the third-best in the region and the fastest in the conference by almost four seconds.
 
MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Aaron True * Sr. * Wichita State * Leroy, Kan.
True takes home his second American weekly honor in four weeks after winning the javelin throw at the K.T. Woodman Classic with a conference-leading toss of 72.45 meters (237-8) on his fourth attempt. True earned his second javelin title of the season, as his throw moved him up seven spots to No. 5 in the NCAA. The senior also bettered his previous meet record at the event.
 
FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Taylor Woods * Jr. * UConn * Marlboro, Md.
Woods shot atop The American’s performance list in the long jump with her top leap of 6.34 meters (20-09.75) on her first attempt to place first at the UConn Northeast Challenge on Saturday. Winning her second long jump title of the season, Woods is tied for 13th nationally, as her mark ranks third all-time in UConn history.
