Houston and UCF Earn Women’s Golf Major Awards

PALM HARBOR, Fla. - The American Athletic Conference announced its 2019 women's golf major awards and all-conference team on Friday afternoon. Houston senior Leonie Harm and head coach Gerrod Chadwell repeated as Player and Coach of the Year. UCF's Elizabeth Moon was selected Freshman of the Year. Eight different teams had a least one player on the all-conference team.

Harm earns her second-straight American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Player of the Year award after winning her first individual conference championship on Tuesday. The league's top-ranked golfer at No. 10 nationally, Harm led after round one, was tied for the lead on day two and won by two strokes. She finished par or better in each round and saved her best for last with a 5-under 67 which tied for the lowest round of the tournament.

UCF freshman Elizabeth Moon capped an impressive first season in The American as she paired with Harm in each round of the championship. The first-year golfer was under par in every round and also saved her best for last with a 3-under 69. Moon paced UCF to a runner-up finish. She is one of three American golfers ranked in the top-75 by Golfstat.

Chadwell earns his third Coach of the Year honor in four seasons. His Cougars became the first team to win back-to-back American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships. UH also won with the largest margin of victory in league history. Houston upped its team performance each day. The Cougars took three strokes off their total on day two before four more on day three with an 8-under 280; the second-lowest round in championship history. UH finished with a three-round 13-under, 851 which was 30 strokes ahead of the field. Four of the five Cougars finished in the top eight overall. Houston is currently ranked 29th in the latest GolfStat rankings.

Harm was joined by teammates Maddy Rayner, Maria Jose Martinez and Hannah Screen with a league-high four selections on the All-Conference Team. UCF boasts two honorees with Moon and Maria Balcazar, along with ECU which saw Dorthea Forbrigd and Kathryn Carson both make the team. SMU's Brigette Dunne, Memphis' Michaela Fletcher, USF's Ramya Meenakshisundaram, Tulane's Jennifer Rosenberg and Tulsa's Lorena Tseng round out the all-conference team.
