PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s lacrosse honors, for the week ending Monday, April 22.
Attacker of the Week
Maddie Gebert * Jr. * Temple
Gebert earned her second Attacker of the Week honor on the season following a 1-1 week that saw the Owls lock up the final spot in the American Athletic Conference tournament field. Against ECU on Saturday, the junior led Temple with four goals on six shots plus an assist for five points. The Owls cruised to an 18-5 win to rise to 2-2 in league play. Earlier in the week, Gebert potted a trio of goals and dished out an assist in a 13-8 loss against Villanova. For the week, she finished with seven goals and two assists for nine points.
Midfielder of the Week
Shannon Kavanagh * So. * Florida
Kavanagh put forth a dominant performance in Florida’s 16-5 win at UConn on Saturday, setting several career-highs in the process. She led all players with five goals, tabulating her 11
th hat trick of the season while adding three assists for a career-high eight points. Kavanagh additionally recorded a career-high 13 draw controls, good for the second-best single-game total in program history. The sophomore rounded out her line with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers to keep Florida unbeaten in league play.
Defensive Player of the Week
Cara Trombetta * Jr. * D * Florida
Trombetta earned her third-consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor as Florida defeated UConn 16-5 on Saturday. As a unit, the Gators held the Huskies to 5-of-18 shooting, with Trombetta posting three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. The junior now owns 98 career caused turnovers, good for 12
th on the NCAA’s active career list.
Freshman of the Week
Maddie Souza * A * Vanderbilt
Souza was a key part of Vanderbilt’s attack again this week, netting her second-straight hat trick in the Commodores’ 15-18 loss to Cincinnati. She added a pair of assists to finish with a career-high five points, and collected a ground ball.

Posted five points, consisting of a pair of goals and three assists to surpass the 100-career assist mark in Cincinnati’s 18-15 win over Vanderbilt; completed her all-around outing with two draw controls and two ground balls

Collected 10 draw controls to better her own single-season school record (81) in the Bearcats’ 18-15 win over Vanderbilt; scored three goals and added an assist, a ground ball and two caused turnovers as Cincinnati rose to 4-0 in league play
Bridget Whitaker * So. * M * Temple
Posted a line of a goal, three assists, seven draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover in Temple’s 1-1 week; registered a goal and two assists as the Owls defeated ECU 18-5 to earn the final American Athletic Conference tournament spot
