PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three teams and three individuals from the American Athletic Conference are headed to the NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals as announced during the Wednesday night selection show. The 2019 American champions Houston, along with UCF and ECU were selected as teams. Memphis’ Michaela Fletcher, SMU’s Brigitte Dunne and Tulsa’s Lorena Tseng will compete as individuals.
Houston competes as the No. 8 seed at the NCAA Auburn Regional on May 6-8 at Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Ala. From NCAA Regional play, 24 teams and 12 individuals will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
This was the second-highest seeding the Cougars received in NCAA Regional play. Houston competed as the No. 7 seed at the 2018 NCAA Austin Regional.
UCF competes as the No. 13 seed at the NCAA Cle Elum Region hosted by the University of Washington at the Tumble Creek Club. This is the 14
th Regional appearance for the Knights and the sixth appearance in the last nine seasons. The Knights wrapped up the regular season ranked No. 51 and finished second in The American.
ECU heads to the Auburn Regional as the No. 14 seed in the Auburn Regional, which will be played at the Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Alabama on May 6-8. It is the Pirates 13
th at-large bid.
Memphis’ Fletcher is now the first player in program history to earn three NCAA regional bids with an invitation to the Normal Regional. Fletcher is just became the first Tiger in program history to earn three all-conference honors last week after a third-place finish at The American Athletic Conference Championships in Palm Coast, Florida.
SMU’s Dunne also earned an individual bid to the Norman Regional on the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on May 6-8. The senior makes her fourth NCAA appearance, twice as an individual and twice as a team. Dunne finished 11
th at last week’s championship. Dunne set the SMU career record for birdies with 350 so far.
Tulsa’s Tseng is the third American individual at the Norman Regional. She is the first Tulsa individual golfer to make the regional since the 2012-13 campaign. Tseng has placed among the top-15 in eight of 10 tournaments, including seven top-10 finishes.
